We also have some areas up north that have less gravity than the rest of the world.

Canada really is a world of magic and mystery.

the term much less gravity being used in a relative sense I hope. ;)

I read about this this morning; I can only assume aliens have crash landed up there and this is the beginning of The Thing. Pretty sure that Windsor, Ontario faced a similar problem a while back.

It's all relatively relative I as far as I know. ^_^

Windsor is the retched arsehole of Canada and has more than enough to worry about already.

I've heard a lot of strange theories about the gravity thing, and no one really know for sure what is causing the difference I don't think.

I did find this article that explains a few possibilities though.

http://news.national...rd-gravity.html

It says that the gravity differential slight-one part in 25,000, or a tenth of an ounce for a 150-pound (68-kilogram) person.

Still neat as fuck though.

would pockets of methane/other gasses frozen under northern ice/land help contribute to those differences maybe?

It's possibly a factor.

Most scientists researching the matter seem to agree that there are several causes piled up to equal fuckey gravity.

That's actually a pretty big fucking difference to be honest. It's probably due to the fact that the Earth's core and mantle are not a uniform volume/density. You get pockets of more concentrated magma in some areas, whilst other areas are less dense. As a result gravity across the globe changes quite differently. You probably weigh less in Canada than you do in China, for instance.

But you also weigh less in China because you're 5'3" and 125 lbs, for instance.

Am I doing this right?

China is pretty big and their terrain varies almost as much as Canada, I'm sure there's a spot in china where I'd weigh exactly what I weigh right now.

It was just an example. It's not about terrain though, it's about what's below the crust.
