After my most recent kidney stone I'm considering becoming a coffee person. Well, how conveniently we got a Keurig 2.0 for a late Christmas present right after the fact...

I must say they are handy machines. I'm going to explore the many K cups and see if I can't find something...that doesn't give me complete gut rot and ass breath. I'm going to explore substitutes for soda and this one just happen to fall in my lap at the right time. The goal is to cut from my current 3-4 cans a day to 2. So here's to uhh...becoming a coffee person be it temporary or long term.

Stupid question: what do coffee and kidney stones have to do with each other?

There's little correlation unless you're drinking coffee with such high caffeine content that it actively dehydrates you; which is normally not the case considering coffee is still constituted mostly of water and milk. Regardless of what you're drinking, your best bet to avoid kidney stones is to drink plenty and often.

Just call me Mr. Dr. Prof. Gol now.

Also, Demon You, I would definitely avoid Keurig. They are absolutely disastrous for the environment. I've boycotted cup-coffee machines since 2014 based on this.

I read somewhere that it is the caffeine that reduced the chances of kidney stones forming.

So coffee is just the medium for the caffeine to get in to the system.

Dehydration does the opposite and encourages stones, so you should definitely slam water all damn day too.

Spoiler

@ Affray. Life's not that simple, man. Sure it makes perfect sense to drink water all day BUT WHO DOES THAT? Plus, the city water here is meh too. Gross. WATER IS GROSS!

I drink an obscene amount of water every day, I am exactly that cool, because of my internal wetness.

You are going to be a fun dad.

There's a reason I have a dog instead of a kid.

Besides, you know, being socially inept and single.
