This girl I was speaking to/seeing for a while refused to be called by her first name as well...I didn't realise it was a thing with other people too! So far before that, the only two people I knew who wanted different names were these two lads with Daddy issues. Which is hilarious because they were built like brick shithouses as well.

I also fall under the category of not going by my first name, but instead of a middle name, I'm referred to as my last name as a nickname. It's mostly because there are so many people with my first name that it got really confusing when someone called our name and we all responded. So we all refer to each other by last name. It's just outright became a nickname that stuck after high school.

My middle name is Robert, which is about as plain as a name can be.

It was given to me because it's my dad's middle name as well, plus his name is John and mine is Shawn and he thought it would be cool if our names rhymed.

Though he has gone by Rob his whole life because his dad's name was John as well and that got confusing.
