Hello!

I'm new to this forum and decided I'd contribute something silly as my first post.

**Spoilers**

So remember how Gandalf was speaking so intently about how they needed a burglar and that Bilbo was a good candidate?

To me it sounded like they talking about D&D, needing a thief and that a hobbit would have a sneak bonus! It would explain how and why they get out situations sometimes like, "Legolas jumps in and saves the day and then leaves" or "the boulder somehow completely missed him and killed the orc."  And it would explain why Gandalf couldn't be there all the time, the D.M. had to go somewhere and they decided to keep playing anyway.

Go ahead and poke some holes in my theory, I'd like to how to prove or disprove this theory of mine.  I know it's probably full of flaws but it's fun to think that the reason that the Hobbit movie wasn't accurate was because the whole thing was actually just an RPG.

I actually find that a humorous though, (i'm new too btw so hiya I guess) but if it's a game of DnD sounds like Gandalf might be the DM so there is some serious Meta gaming stuff going on and it explains how he just pops around the world, was reborn as Gandalf the white, and how EVERY SINGLE TIME you thought they were gonna die the Eagles showed up, and the battle of Gandalf and Saruman? That was when another player got sick of the Meta gaming and slapped him, then was rightfully kicked out of the game, and then the remaining players allowed Gandalf to comeback (after visiting the dry cleaners).

Oops didn't realize this was necro.. it was the first thing in my feed... sorry... :/

Someone on tumblr tossed out the theory that The Road to El Dorado was a two-person campaign of nothing but critical successes and failures.

And, I seem to recall that the dudes who created D&D were heavily influenced by D&D? Is that right?

Yeah, I seem to be right about that.

ew. I still loathe the LOTR's and Hobbit movies.

Hobbiton has been extremely popular as of late.

You pay $100NZD to visit a set with fake houses built into a hill.

Hobbiton would be way more fun if they let some random kiwis live there to fuck with tourists.

Hah. A vast majority of tourists I meet are here for the LOTR. I tell them I'd rather visit Hogwarts in the UK.

Amen to that. I would sell them bootleg copies of a shitty self-made film version of the OG trilogy. (see 'Be Kind Rewind' starring Jack Black)

I live about 25 minutes away from the set. And the township of Matamata (where Hobbiton lies) is like hella flash. aka rich farmers.
