Comes out in less than a week, on the 24th.

Personally, I'm super hyped for it. I've been waiting for a good, stylized thinking-mans FPS to come out for a while now, and everything as of late feels like carbon copies [aside from Doom, been enjoying that a fair amount.]

After about 24 hours playing the beta, I'm still super excited for the game. Still excited to see how I can improve, and to get good at various high skill-cap characters *cough* genji

Personally, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys arcadey, team-based shooters. But the beauty of overwatch is, with its variety of characters and playstyles, it can really appeal to anyone.

Enjoy being solo and 1v6ing the opposing team? Try a flanking character like Reaper, Tracer, Roadhog, or D.va

Not so great at shooting, but wanna be a help to the team? Torbjorn, Mercy, and Lucio will make sure you still have a good time.

Want to roleplay as the turret from TF2? Well Bastion's got you covered.

There's something for everyone lol.

Going to give this a go on Xbox probably. TBH, I never liked team shooters. Hated TF... but I'll give this one a try. I don't really like playing shooters online or in co-op, unless it was something silly like Left 4 Dead or Killing Floor. Those I enjoyed while I played.

I really like the Tracer/Widowmaker video.

At the moment of the kill... they are never more alive.

McCree's becoming my sleeper favorite

can't 1v1 him close range, flashbang-fan the hammer is too strong of a combo

Also, lovin his 50's cowboy movie accent

"Huh ho, excuse me" *fans the hammer*

"Like shootin fish in a barrel"

So, looking through average reviews, people's biggest complaint with the game is that it's not F2P.

People think the game should be free, with all the heroes behind a pay/playwall. But let me tell you why that's wrong on a couple levels.

1: Game balance. The game's balances so you can change heroes mid-match, ideally to any hero you want. Alot of heroes are hard to counter without specific types of heroes; Try hitting Pharah without a hitscan weapon: Not easy. Having a limited roster would make a couple of the heroes disgustingly overpowered, especially in the hands of decent players" I can already 1v1 anyone at my MMR with Genji or McCree thanks to 6 months of map/hero knowledge.

2: FPS basics: Free 2 play means Free 2 cheat. If OW were free, hacks would eventually be commonplace as the big deterrant for hackers atm is a $40 cover charge, and a system that helps single out cheaters. The PotG and Score Card system will make it apparent when someone hacks: You get a nice PotG with your aimbot, now watch as all other 11 players get to watch your aimbot snaps. Score card time: oh look you got a card for 96% scoped accuracy: incoming 11 reports.

3: Younger gamers need to understand that grinding to unlock stuff in a MP game isn't content, it's skinner-boxing. I've seen tons of complaints of "You buy the game, and you already have every non-cosmetic unlocked. There's no incentive to play the game."

Except, you know, enjoying the game. Having fun playing the game. Like what people used to play video games for before online games made a norm of pointlessly walling off their content to extend play time. Don't get me wrong, rewards for MP games have their place: It plays a huge part, and feels right in WoW.  But a game like CoD saying "You're stuck with shit guns until you grind 50 levels" is not content, it's bullshit.

I remember when the worst thing in the world was buying a fighting game and having to unock every character. It felt unfair, I paid for the game, let me play as all the damn characters. Now kids actively want those systems in place for EVERYTHING.

Disgusting.

Nope, $40 down gets you the full game, and future heroes/maps are going to be free [confirmed by blizzard last year].

So yeah, $40 for a complete experience that I'll probably be playing until I get sick of literally every hero. And with 21 of them, with future ones on the way, I don't think that'll be happening. There's only a handful of maps at the moment, but they're fun and robust enough that I haven't gotten tired of them yet, and again with future content planned I feel the game is going to last for a bit.

The biggest deterrent I feel the game has, aside from the $40 price tag, is a steep learning curve. With 21 heroes, there's alot of interactions to keep track of, and learning how to beat x with y is a big part of doing well in the game. For beginners, it's going to be very frustrating not knowing that McCree can stun you, that Junkrat drops grenades on death, that genji can reflect any projectile, etc etc. But once you learn it, it's extremely satisfying to outsmart and outplay a hero that has an upper hand against you.

Matchmaking's a joke, netcode is a joke, and the playerbase is insufferable.

I know I'll probably be playing the game again tomorrow, but the shitty client-prediction to make up for a shitty refresh rate just ruined the night for me.

https://www.reddit.c...y_is_it_mccree/

This thread is giving me cancer.

A bunch of people bitching about heroes while ignoring their counters.

What counters McCree's flashbang combo? lets go down the roster

Genji [Deflect], Pharah [Can fly], S:76 [Can sprint], Mei [can cryo], Junkrat [can bear-trap], Widowmaker [can snipe], Reinhardt [shield], Roadhog [hook], Winston [another shield], and even the support Lucio [SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED BOOST]

and then the rest of the thread is people bitching about their favorite character's counter. Torbjorn isn't OP, you just have to coordinate with your team. Hanzo isn't OP, you just have to keep moving. Pharah isn't OP, you just need a hitscan hero. Junkrat isn't OP, you just need...

Okay, maybe a good Junkrat is OP. but any /good/ flanking character has a good chance at taking him down.

So, after a couple house of genji, I still feel like I absolutely blow with him.

I'll still do really well, usually get gold medal in elims for my team and silver in damage. But I can tell there are alot of scenarios with Genji where if I were just better: just kept better track of my cooldowns, was a little more accurate with the shuriken and dash/melee combo, and just a little better with aiming reflect, I would be winning pretty much every 1v1/2/3/4.

It's amazing, his playstyle is truly that of a ninja. Thanks to wall-climb, you can just stay on high ground while you decide to to pick out.  Weaken them with a couple shuriken from afar, then get in their face. Once they hit 100 hp, Swift Strike through them, then just finish them with a melee or shurken fan. Thanks to Swift Strike resetting when you kill someone, you're extremely mobile when you start to pick of their team one by one, and if things don't work out, you can always double jump>swift strike onto high ground for safety.

I also need to get better at planning when to Dragonblade. A couple of times I've ulted just to finish, like, a lone support. then I ran around with a badass dragon blade and nothing to kill.

Fun fact about Winston: That's Crispin Freeman voicing him (Alucard from hellsing, Zelgadis from Slayers, Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya, etc)

Also: Reaper has the same voice as Bloo from Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends
