So, looking through average reviews, people's biggest complaint with the game is that it's not F2P.
People think the game should be free, with all the heroes behind a pay/playwall. But let me tell you why that's wrong on a couple levels.
1: Game balance. The game's balances so you can change heroes mid-match, ideally to any hero you want. Alot of heroes are hard to counter without specific types of heroes; Try hitting Pharah without a hitscan weapon: Not easy. Having a limited roster would make a couple of the heroes disgustingly overpowered, especially in the hands of decent players" I can already 1v1 anyone at my MMR with Genji or McCree thanks to 6 months of map/hero knowledge.
2: FPS basics: Free 2 play means Free 2 cheat. If OW were free, hacks would eventually be commonplace as the big deterrant for hackers atm is a $40 cover charge, and a system that helps single out cheaters. The PotG and Score Card system will make it apparent when someone hacks: You get a nice PotG with your aimbot, now watch as all other 11 players get to watch your aimbot snaps. Score card time: oh look you got a card for 96% scoped accuracy: incoming 11 reports.
3: Younger gamers need to understand that grinding to unlock stuff in a MP game isn't content, it's skinner-boxing. I've seen tons of complaints of "You buy the game, and you already have every non-cosmetic unlocked. There's no incentive to play the game."
Except, you know, enjoying the game. Having fun playing the game. Like what people used to play video games for before online games made a norm of pointlessly walling off their content to extend play time. Don't get me wrong, rewards for MP games have their place: It plays a huge part, and feels right in WoW. But a game like CoD saying "You're stuck with shit guns until you grind 50 levels" is not content, it's bullshit.
I remember when the worst thing in the world was buying a fighting game and having to unock every character. It felt unfair, I paid for the game, let me play as all the damn characters. Now kids actively want those systems in place for EVERYTHING.
