As far as being a creative work that I enjoy:

1, Wind Waker: The 3D Zelda formula the best it's ever been. Aesthetic was amazingly crisp and new at release, and the game felt like the fullest Zelda game to date.

2. Majoras Mask: Definitely amazing for the time. A huge step forward from OoT in gameplay, storytelling, and combat.

3. Link's Awakening: Helped Nintendo show the world what the SNES could do, and created Zelda games as we know them.

4. Ocarina of Time: Their first attempt at 3D zelda, and even though it was kinda hamhanded, still made a game I'll remember forever.

5. The Legend of Zelda: For being a game that's /still/ more fun than Twilight Princess.

Worst zelda game would be a dogfight between Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and the CD-I games.

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, I feel, were too afraid to leave their comfort zone. They were afraid to really add anything [to the formula, gameplay gimmicks don't count], so they felt like very dry, boring, "hit this to solve puzzle" type affairs. It feels like they developed those games based on a checklist.

I think you mean A Link to the Past, as Link's Awakening was on the Game Boy (pre-Color) originally and was nowhere near as good as ALttP,

The consensus in the gaming community is that Twilight Princess had the hardest puzzles while also having the richest story.  The Twilight Realm was a superb addition and told us what happened to Ganon in the Child Link timeline.  Zant and Midna were inspired creations.

Oh, and Skyward Sword had the most cathartic gameplay.

My bad, Link to the Past. I'de just woken up.

TP had some challenging puzzles, in fact some /too/ challenging as that's what I hear most people recall about the game. That, and the numerous bugs that could prevent you from ever finishing. But it was a prime example of them not trying at all. The puzzles were hard, but uninspired. The graphics were a shitty dark, washed aesthetic that felt really out of place, but "dark and gritty" was what everyone else was doing at the time so they tried their hand at it. The story was all over the place, and in hindsight I don't even /know/ what the hell was happening, something something kill ganon as usual.

The twilight realm, although new to the franchise, had not only been done before by other games, but had been done much better. Honestly the twilight realm sections felt like a chore, something you had to do before you could get back to /why we play zelda/. Even though it was crucial to the plot, mechanic and gameplay wise it felt tacked on, like a shitty addition [and looking at some of the bugs that arise from using it, I feel it was tacked onto the original game engine without much testing]

All in all, it felt like a so-so game, but a /bad/ zelda game. And this is coming from someone who was excited for its release.

Skyward sword felt the same in that sense. Very uninspired gameplay, not really bringing anything new to the table that wasn't just flat out gimmicky.

Well, I played it on the GameCube.  I think those were Wii bugs.

A Link to the Past was the first Zelda I finished on my own (i.e. not playing my parents' save points). Wind Waker is my favorite to play, OoT is the best story (I say that not having played Majora), Twilight Princess was GORGEOUS, and I fucking hate all of the handhelds. Ages, Seasons, Awakening, Minish Cap, Between Worlds. Fuck 'em.

I hate handheld gaming.

And fuck Skyward Sword. Just FUCK it.

I like all the Zeldas for a "one and done" playthrough, except the ones they let Capcom put their dirty smudges over.  Fuck the Oracle games.

It's the Zeldas I enjoy playing more than once that are my favorite.

Remember:  If it were not for RE4, all five 3-D console Zeldas would comprise my top five video games of all time.

Oh, I forgot those were Capcom.

That feels so weird.

They fucked up the bosses so hard by adding in bullshit to them.  There's one boss where having the lights on using a consumable good tells which "clone" is the real one.  But, both of the two lights have to be lit for you to be able to actually damage him.  If just one of them goes out in the middle of your swing (even though you can see the "real" one with just one light,) you won't damage him.  I just went "That's bullshit for a Zelda game, fuck this game."

Never played a single game in the series. But I did buy the ocarina of time on the 3DS.

It is currently being played by the bro. I'll get to it.

Play the 3-D console Zeldas in the order they originally came out.  That's how they're meant to be played.

My favorite is a three-way tie between The Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and Ocarina of Time. I also very much enjoyed The Minish Cap and Twilight Princess.

Skyward Sword was pretty good too...

...they're all good.

One day, JonTron-sempai will take me through Majora's Mask. I've never really played it.

(I played it for 20 minutes, it scared the crap out of me and I never looked back.)

I finally broke my Zeldaginity today coz Spirit Tracks finally arrived.

Set me back $12 which is suprisingly cheap considering mother fuckers fork out $40+ for it.

I like it. Stylus is weird but I can dig the story and gameplay. I like the humor.

So far this is the best Zelda game imo.

p.s let us take the time to mourn our beloved fallen willie who became an asshole in his final days here in nerd forum.

You will be sorrowfully missed like a pimple..... on my cheek....... before a date.......

My favourite is probably Majora's Mask. When I was younger, the time limit intimidated me until I actually learned how to play the game, along with the time shenanigans the game entails. While a lot of people prefer Ocarina, I'm a huge fan of this one. Brought a whole new meaning to the Hero of Time, really.
I think it's the side quests that really do it for me.

Skyward Sword, meanwhile, while scrutinised by a few people due to the controls, was also a pretty awesome experience. I thought the side quests in that game were lacking, and Skyloft was pretty boring. Still enjoyed the experience as a whole.

I plan on getting Majora's mask on the 3DS.

I wonder if Skyward Sword will be valuable one day? Seems to be topping all the Top Wii game lists. Last copy I saw went for $55.
