What is something you knew that you were surprised someone else didn't.

One time this girl asked me if she could get pregnant by sucking a penis. I was in shock! How on earth would you think that was possible!

Well, depending on how religious where you live is, sex ed in school isn't always that great. I learned most things on the internet; never once was any form of birth control ever brought up when we had our yearly "talks" in school.

I've got kind of a weird one: What armadillo is. I really didn't think it was that obscure of an animal.

It's not haha she was in the same school as I and she was a good friend, no religion that would create such ignorance.

I still question why we, as girls in sex ed, were taught to put condoms... onto cucumbers. I mean first of all I'm never going to meet someone with one that big unless it's a strapon, in which case the condom is useless. And also, why not teach us about female-centric birth control and protection? When I left school I knew nothing about what was available to me as a woman with regards to protecting myself. All I knew was condom, and pill. And the pill was only because it was prescribed for me in an attempt to help a different medical condition.

I agree!! What about all of the useful and successful female birth controls. Why is it a hormonal based one brought to our attention. I don't use the pill or any birth control with hormones. I Don't need any more than I have. There are so many better options. Loop holes, information that is just not said.

my friend and I once has a discussion about where meat comes from.. like what body part of an animal.. she was completely convinced that "meat" was a seperate kind of tissue and she was really grossed out when I explained to her that  the meat we eat is actually the muscles of the animal.. ^^

I always thought pickling was the process of putting something in pickle juice, so I was really confused a couple weeks ago to find out what we call pickles were just pickled cucumbers.

That WWI was from 1914-1918 and WWII was from 1939-1945. You have no idea how many have no fucking clue about those dates.

I know a great many things that most people do not, mostly because my brain is a sponge for nonsense knowledge, so I try not to be baffles when people don't know the same stuff that I do.

A buddy of mine however, works at a retirement home full of people who are apparently on the same mental awareness level as the old folks who live in the alzheimer's wing. He leaves work every day asking himself why he hasn't punched them all in the face yet.

He tells me that they have no idea who/what the following are:

Sea shanties

Gandhi

The Dalai Lama

Why you sanitise counter tops with water that hasn't already been dirtied

That severely undercooked chicken will murder the shit out of you with salmonella

One girl thought Hitler was a fictional character, and that the Titanic was also a work of fiction

That is just what I remember him telling me.

I can only imagine the nightmare he must work through every day and not go on a murder spree.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

I know I have these moments all the time, but I'm having a hard time thinking of any right now.

I do remember a friend telling a story from when he worked in an autoparts store. An old lady came to him telling him her 710 was leaking.

For those of you that don't get it right off, it's an upside down OIL cap. >.>

These three guys didn't know about Tom Sawyer or Huck Fin.

My friend didn't know what coast he was on.

Most people I talk to can't even name one music album.

This one guy I talked to didn't know that John Lennon was part of the Beatles.

This one guy I talked to never heard of Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, 2pac, etc.

I could go on until my fingers break.

Some people here tend to be a little... sheltered.
Most don't watch the news or know anything about the world around them.
My neighbor thought that gangnam style was Chinese.
A scary percentage of people have never read a novel cover to cover in their life.
I was *the only one* in my fifth or sixth grade class who knew what the holocaust was.
I am the only one in my eleventh grade french class who knows what "existentialism" is.
95% of people have not seen star wars, the dollars trilogy, alien, blade runner, 2001, pulp fiction etc., which are all films that I sort of think of as essential.
Only one in tenth grade drama class who knew "meta", "amiable"

God, now I feel like a pretentious asshole.
I'm fearful, I'm fearful, I'm fearful of flying, and flying is fearful of me.

For YEARS in my early teens, I was under the impression that a "gory" film was one wherein there was a lot of sex.
