What, in all that is wonderful, is a toonie? And can I have one?

It's canadian coin currency. Loonie = $1 Toonie = $2

I have so many from my latest travels to Hamiltion, it's seriously weird how fast they accumulate.

Also, Happy super belated birthday Danico!!

I'm a Liger.... Want to see my Liger impersonation?

Yeah a toonie is a $2 coin.

We call the one dollar coins Loonies due to the Canadian loon on the non-queened side, and we call our $2 coins Toonies because it rhymes with Loonie.

Quite the clever lot we Canucks.

That's so awesome. It's like how we call a pound a quid and because of that, a squid. :D

I heard somewhere that you guys call your coin quid as a short form of quid pro quo, but I also heard it derived from a Gaelic word they used as a slang for fucking, hence the connection to the word pound. I have no idea which is legit, if either.

I am 99% certain that that, at least, is bollocks.

Apparently no one knows, 'quid-pro-quo' is most likely as it literally means 'what for what' or 'an equal exchange'. Which'd make sense I think. We call a £25 a pony too, don't know why...

I've often wondered why £1000 is a grand, and £100 is a ton. Considering a (metric) ton is 1000kg, wouldn't it be better if they switched it?

Canadians have much better names for their cash. I can imagine the way people would look at me if I asked for a malookie of gas at the station while holding out a twenty. It's a magical land, I swear to God.

1c-penny/maple dots

5c-nickle/beavers

10c-dime/bluenosers

25c-quarter

$1-Loonie(not even nicknames)

$2-Toonie

I don't think we have a very in depth/awesome nickname system for our bills.

Yet.

That is so much better than ours.

1c- That useless thing that I drop and never pick up. The carpet in my room and the area around my TV is covered with these fuckers

5c- That useless thing that make me angry when I think they're quarters in my pocket. I pull them out at checkout and say, 'Fuck it. I'll use a card'

10c- That useless thing that I trade in for quarters

25c- The only useful coin. Trade for toys after shopping at grocery stores. Used to be for video games before Dave and Busters came up with cards

50c- That one dude who got shot. Not the one with the hat

1$- GP. The Sacajawea gold coin. I fucking love these

1$- Silver. Worth the same as GP, which is bullshit. 1 GP should be worth 10 SP. These should be dimes

1$- Susan B. Anthony. Not GP. Not as hot as Sacajawea. 3/10. Would not bang.

1$- Eisenhower. Meh. I like Ike. Kinda bulky though.

1$- Silver eagle. Came out in 86, the best year. I wanna say the goddess Athena is on this one. Goddess of wisdom? 10/10, would marry

1$- New Washington coins. They look fake. Not as good as real GP

Ours are a bit odd, we have 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins. Honestly it'd make more sense to ditch 1p and 2p coins and go for a "5, 10, 25, 50, 1, 2" system. On the plus side though, all are coins are different shapes and sizes which makes it much easier for blind people to get out the right change and not make hassle for themselves. Hell, the 20p and 50p coins are bloody septagons.

I like using coin money because it feels more wizardy.
