[Exospheria]

So guys who have watched it, what do you think of it? how much would you rate it out of 10?

 

Personally i find the movie really beautiful and i really like the scene where they pass through the wormhole, that was the first time i've seen someone depict it in a motion video of how it might look like inside the wormhole, that's just beautiful and with the whole time dilation concept being put into the movie, love it.

-- most of the dialogue in the movie is expositional and badly written
-- love triumphs over science cliche
-- lots of other cliches and formula plot beats
-- feels like nolan is trying to trick us into thinking that this is hard sf, even though the science here is bullshit
-- the final act (this is clearly a 3 act movie) is drawn out and uninteresting
-- Christopher Nolan is somewhat disconnected in his style ala Stanley Kubrick. This does not benefit a father daughter love story.
-- Christopher Nolan feels the need to cut every few seconds. This is a shame because there are some really nice shots here, that aren't given a chance to breath. On top of that, every shot in the movie has some sort of movement on it, which at times is distracting from the characters.

Interstellar was filled to the brim with technobable, much of which was inaccurate at some level. Something that nolan never needed to rely on to tell a complex mind bending story at first. Also something that many better films that get the "hard sf" label never needed. Go see 2001

That's the Screen Junkies, who like to occasionally consult with a physicist to ask if a movie follows sound science.  Outside of the obvious science fiction parts (the entire bookcase scene,) most of what's described went through a world-renowned astrophysicist who consulted heavily on the film.

A very beautiful film visually and plotwise, I liked it and all, but for me it was too long. I don't know what it is about Nolan's movies that make them so tiring for me to watch.

I absolutely loved the part when they go to the random water planet where 1 hour is 7 years (or something like that) on Earth, and when they come back the black guy they left on the spaceship has been waiting for them for, what, 23 years? I thought that was really cool.

I don't understand why everyone's praising this though. It's a great movie, yeah, but I personally don't think it deserves all the hype it's getting.

Then he hasn't seen any of the Marvel movies this year or any of the big animated features (The LEGO Movie, The Book of Life, and Big Hero 6 were all better than Interstellar.)

It has 74 on metacritic, so good but not praise.
I thought it was similar in quality to the recent marvel movies. I've not seem any of the animated films listed, but that sounds like something that's tough to compare.

Saying that it's the best film in years is a stretch, even if someone liked it.

Semi recent films that I liked more: Boyhood, Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years a Slave, Edge of Tomorrow, Blue is the Warmest Colour, Django Unchained, The Master, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Life of Pi, Prisoners, Argo (which I thought was overrated, but meh), Could Atlas, Gone Girl (which I also thought was overrated, but double meh)

Maybe I'm just pretentious when it comes to movies, but I'd like to see a case being made for Interstellar being better than any of the titles listed.
