So today Nintendo revealed their new and improved Nintendo 3DS system.

Frankly I don't see what is wrong with the old one. Sure they added the second analog stick to make viewing in the game a little easier but is that added feature really worth throwing down another $200? The added CPU is even nice but I never have issues running things on my 3DS so again... why upgrade?

Now if I didn't already have a 3DS I would consider waiting for the 2015 release of this but as for current owners of 3DS, I don't see anything special that would make me want to upgrade. Anyone else have any thoughts??

This is something that really bugs me with Nintendo. They really try to cash-cow their handhelds.

100% agreed. It is so annoying. Just let the product sell... why keep trying to jazz it up and make the same product sound fancier than it really is.

For the same reason that computer companies keep making slightly better versions of everything every few months. They know it will sell.

Also because nintendo has been the only REAL name in handheld gaming devices. I imagine smartphones hurt their profit a bit nowadays though.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Even though smartphone and tablet gaming has come a long way I still don't think it can compare to a legit handheld gaming system. I read this article by Time and I think they nailed it.

...the Japanese gaming giant is also doubling down on something Apple iPads and devices powered by Google’s Android system typically don’t have: buttons. The New Nintendo 3DS features a new analog control stick as well as two new buttons. Buttons matter because, no matter how much more powerful phones and tablets get or how much more sophisticated the software that runs on them, manipulating many games without them is still cumbersome. The best mobile games have devised unique control methods for touch interfaces, but titles with traditional setups—guiding a character across 3D space, for instance—still suffer.

With gaming on a flat surface, I personal think the gaming experience is just that.... flat. Sure it's good for puzzle/brain games but when it comes to real interaction games I find smartphone/tablet gaming lame.

I will admit when the Special Edition 3DSs come out.... I get tempted to purchase them. Always.

My dad bought two Zelda ones for himself and my mom for Christmas.

I've never gone in for special editions of consoles, because to be honest I could get the same effect by buying a decal/sticker set >.> I know the special editions are mostly made for people who don't already own a console though, so meh.

Though if there were a Rune Factory 3DS, that would pique my interest.
