A great subject for nerds I think. What do you think of alternative energy sources, and what kinds do you think have a chance at success?

I nearly posted Magners, but I've since sobered up. >.>

I think algae would be a way to go, and definitely solar power in the Atacama, Sahara and Sub-Saharan deserts. We have the capability to provide enormous amounts of energy from deserts but we haven't yet. I always thought that was a niche in the market there. If ever I fail at getting into uni, that'll be my fall back. XD

Algae does seem like a great solution. it grows amazingly quick and solves a lot of problems. If can also be used for hydrogen generation and refined into organic oil.

Problem is, algae requires food, so you gotta grow the food solution for the algae too, which takes up space. I really could get behind desert solar farms, like on an enormous industrial scale. It's something I'd love to do if I was more of a risk taker.

One of the best foods for algae is human waste though. Solving that problem too.

I remember reading about thorium a while back. One of the suggestions was actually a thorium powered car.
