Anyone watched the reboot or the original?

The reboot with black science man Neil deGrasse Tyson just came on Netflix (at least in the U.S.) and after watching the first episode I'm pretty infatuated. I haven't seen the original with Carl Sagan but I'll probably check it out after I'm finished with the new one.

I've got all the episodes on my DVR. I absolutely love it, but I have a few picky critiques about how the show covers some things multiple times [for the sake of people who've missed episodes]. Other than that, I think it's fun "make-you-think" science show presented in a very watchable fashion, that easily works whatever the topic at hand is into your daily life.

My dad and I watched Cosmos over it's original run a couple months ago. My dad was pretty set in his scientific beliefs, and for the most part it wasn't a big deal but he refused to believe climate change was a thing, and I remember my sister and I, who were taught all the green thinking stuff in school, had a few silly disagreements with him while growing up. When we came back from school after watching An Inconvenient Truth, we had to watch The Great Global Warming Swindle after supper.

Well we started watching Cosmos, and with each episode my dad was telling me how much more he liked Neil deGrasse Tyson with each episode, and how interesting the stuff he was talking about was, stuff that my dad learned long ago but forgot about.

And then came the climate change episode. We watch it basically in silence, where we would usually talk throughout an episode, and when it ends, my dad says, "I don't like it." to which I ask "like what?"

"Anyone else would have a political agenda behind what they're saying but he just wants you to learn and think, he's not trying to push you into anything. I don't like it."

Anyway I'd like to thank Mr. Tyson for opening minds and inspiring so many people. His continuation really lives up to Carl Sagan's original series.

I could definitely see that getting mildly annoying, but I suppose it's better than leaving someone who's catching an episode mid season from being confused and turned away

I love the fact that it's something I can think of as entertainment, as much as I would any other TV series or movie, but instead of just drawing emotion from it you get to draw knowledge as well. Pre ice pawn lumber bible alien History Channel, in a more mass acceptable fashion.

Did you watch the original series? If so, worth watching after watching all of the reboot?

To be honest after the first episode it really made me want to take some college courses in a thirst for knowledge. I probably won't actually care enough to do it in a weeks time, but the show really does provoke a certain curiosity and yearning.

I...

What?

Wait, what?

I've read that sentence fifteen times, and it fails to make any sense whatsoever to my consciousness.

If your father and I ever got into an argument, I think it would come to blows pretty quickly.
