So most people who've read/seen LOTR will have come across this complaint. "Why didn't they use the eagles to fly to Mordor instead of spending three movies walking there?"

I like this a lot, but I have more of a problem when this much thought has to be put into a story to explain huge holes in the plot, when fan fiction has to be written to patch up the story. I love LotR, it's fucking classic, but when there's such a huge hole in the story, and it isn't explained away at all by the author, it makes me look down on the author. Why not just have goddamn elephants carry Frodo back?

It's a challenge to remain within a world's rules and logically problem-solve. I do it in Potter ceaselessly.

Oh, hey, this should've gone in that fan theories thread. I love it when it gets revived and people add to it.
