So lets say I wanted to build a game

Lets say it's going to be an RPG with a Final Fantasy style turn based combat system, along with a skill system and items.
Now at one point I was almost fluent enough in javascript to actually call myself a programmer, and I'm under the impression that it's now possible to build simpler games that are browser based through html5/javascript. Would it be realistic to build a game of this sort in this style, using a database for saves, or would it be more realistic to learn java and go that route?
All just hypothetical questions of course.
Edit - Also, I know there are libraries and engines like jMonkey for java, is there anything similar for js/html5?

If I do build a game, I'd like for it to be more...um...not a joke? is there a word for that?
I'm not even sure I will, just tossing around ideas in my head while I'm bored.

You're bored all the time. >.>
I wish you good luck tho as I cannot impart anything else of relevance into this conversation.

He's looking to make a site based game, not an installed/run gameRpgmaker vx does not have java script but there is little coding involved with events it's easy and turn based fighting. if you do make a game I'll play test. Last but not least you should really get that spleen checked out I'm positive that's not healthy
also, RPGMaker is just a frontend for a rather shitty Ruby engine

well I take that back
It's not impossible, so that's good motivation
I finished downloading my giant collection of HTML5 books last night, I'll probably throw down on them tomorrow

I was very wrong, and have now added javascript into the giant list of things I need to shove in my brain
One game dev book was literally telling me to buy Impact [a javascript game engine that also works for iOS] by page 5... the rest of the book was the pros of using Impact, and how to use it... I would call it a huge waste, but I might end up using it one day, so *shrug*
and apparently, html5 and css are just going to be the structure and presentation, with the actual game, engine, and mechanics happening in java
*finger pyramid*
*eye squint*
hrmmmmmm
Back to my books

aaaaand that solves that
well, I'm still going to learn java
because of reasons
although I'm iffy on HTML5 and CSS, now tho
it seemed like they just liked HTML5 for it's canvas tag, and CSS cuz it's pretty
there was something about making java run better, but I would have to call shens
It's useful for web pages, tho
now the weighted decision... web pages or game?

all I have to do is use metrics to tweak gameplay
And I fucking love metrics >_>;;
GAME IT IS!
