I'm on episode 21 of the first series, how does this compare?

I'm sad that the Phantom Bullet arc is over. I do like the smaller stories they're introducing though.

As expected, the final episode made me bawl like a baby. >.>

I've just finished the first half of the first season, and I'm not liking it. There's barely any tension, there's no laughs, the plot crawls at a snail's pace.  I like the characters well enough, but they don't think outside of the box.   I was also expecting a twist, like really everything happened in an hour at an accelerated pace and no one really died, but none of that.  I think the capstone was the villain not giving a plausible reason on why he did the things he did, or even seeming evil.
