Some of you guys know I'm working with NAO this semester:

Well, the developer, Aldebaran Robotics in France, has teamed up with Softbank in Japan to introduce Pepper:

Pepper uses male pronouns, according to Aldebaran's website, but with that waistline and set of hips I'm not persuaded. Pepper can chat with you, sing, and recognize emotions based on your voice, body language and facial expressions and will act accordingly, it loves to tell jokes and will decide what to tell based on how you laugh. It's still very expensive, but the idea was to design a domestic robot to be a companion to families.

I'm not a huge fan of the design, though. The large eyes are very scary, I think I'll stick to cute NAO. But it really shows we've got cute lovable personalities on robots, when's the next step before they enslave us? Are you ready?

This is making me think of avgcats comic where a portal turret takes care of a baby.

Though seriously pretty cool idea. Like it better than TV taking care of the kids.

And yeah! I don't think I'd trust it to take care of kids yet but maybe we'll have like Rosie from The Jetsons on the go one day.

I'm thinking of Robot and Frank right now.

Also my gf saw this a few days ago and said if I die she wants this to replace me. Not sure how to take that.

I seriously can't believe that booty "he's" got.

But still he is suuuuuper cuuute... makes me want to put him in my pocket and take him everywhere ^_^

Personally, I think NAO looks cooler. Pepper seems very interesting though, will you end up with one?

Also, that's a hell of a waist:hip ratio for a male robot.

NAO walks too, which is cooler than rolling around. I think I read somewhere they may put legs on Pepper but it will probably drag his battery down from 12 hours to 2. NAO only lasts about 90 minutes if he's walking a lot.

As far as I know, the university isn't ordering any Peppers, I think they only speak Japanese right now anyway. But maybe someday down the road I'll meet him.

Was it on this forum we had a topic about how you could turn yourself into a chatbot so your loved ones could talk to you after you die? Now that I think about it putting it on a robot like this sounds even creepier.
