So, seeing how CloudFlare is run and is often critisized, along with it's high "premium account" prices, I thought I'd may try starting a non-profit, approval-only "cloud accelerator" where websites can apply for free or low-cost cloud website acceleration and DDoS protection. Because of the high cost of DDoS protection and server equipment, only certain sites will be accepted in the network, which a low-cost public solution may be later coming, though.

I was thinking the network would consist of the following locations for servers:

Atlanta, GA, USA (Southeast US)

Chicago, IL, USA (Midwest US)

Kansas City, MO, USA (Midwest US)

Dallas, TX, USA (Southwest US)

New York, NY, USA (East Coast US - COMING SOON)

Denver, CO, USA (Western US - COMING SOON)

London, UK, EU (Europe - COMING SOON)

Now note that all locations will not be available at first but be introduced later (see the tag by the location).

why on Earth would you bother replying if you don't know what it is and just google it.

Arse hole quote of the year award right there. ^

Yeah Rob, how dare you ask a question that encourages discussion on a forum. Dick.

I have one question.

Why?

You already state that it has a high cost, so what possible reason would you have for performing this service for free? What do you get out of it? And this "selection" system you have. What are the parameters? What determines whether a website gets the service?

Additionally, I doubt it'd take off. Complaints or not, CloudFlare is big. For you to also be big, you'd need an asston of advertising, word-of-mouth, etc. But for all intents and purposes, you're a nobody. You could be legit, but what is there to stop you stealing information or whatever with your "protection"? You're a blank face with an idea, but there's absolutely no guarantee you're legit.

I don't buy it.

Hahaha what happened to his comment?

Well I like to give this dude a chance to explain himself. Try win me over with his service.

But I am sorry for trying to initiate conversation. Bad Rob, very bad Rob.

If the cloudflare people are smart they probably have a patent on the technique, so unless you are sure yours is different they probably won't allow it.

also, why the hell do you want to give stuff to big companies for free? They don't need hand outs.
