By all the statement that are made here almost everyone on the this plant could qualify to be a nerd by simply liking one thing that is deemed "nerdy" Heck my mom could now be nerd for watching Star Trek Next Generation,or I could even be a gamer for playing Just Dance 4.

How is that a problem? "Nerd" isn't a title you earn through hard work and dedication. You don't go through some ritual of hazing or bullying before you can call yourself a nerd. If your interests are considered nerdy, if you're super passionate about something, devour all the content of it you can get your hands on, then guess what? You're a nerd. Congratulations. Frankly, I'd be proud to have a mom who was into Star Trek.

People who define themselves by one title usually aren't very fun to be around. If you're so serious about calling yourself a nerd, maybe that's why you can't find any nerdy female friends who fit your ridiculously high standards. Being into books, comics, or TV shows doesn't make you less intelligent either.

Who are you to tell them they aren't? Here is how this works. Let's say I meet someone saying they are nerdy. I then inquire what interests them, if none if it is stuff I have experience in I move on. It isn't my place to tell you that just because your favorite game is just dance that you don't belong. Just that just dance doesn't interest me and that we probably will have nothing too talk about. Me going "you dont play Zelda! Obviously since you don't like the same thing as me you are a phony!" This is an unrealistic standard.

*ahem*

Because nerdy girls don't fit in very well in high school or college. We get to help people with their homework, etc., but that's about it on the social scale. We don't exactly get banged on a regular basis.

That's what it's all about Charlie Brown.

Yeah it isn't quite like being a nerd is such a refined title anymore.

If someone said "Yeah I am totally a chemist." I would require credentials.

If someone says "I am a registered notary." I would require proof, which would be no problem, since if I were a notary I would have my stamp on me at all times.

If someone says "I am such a nerd." Unless I just witnessed something amazingly nerdy occur, I immediately dismiss them as not worth my time.

Anyone who thinks that qualifying themselves as nerds due to their intellect and assumptions about being special and unique pretty much fall in to that same immediately dismissed category.

Some pointy haired, wireframe glasses wearing biochemist in some lab somewhere wishing he knew how to talk to girls, is a nerd.

The high school football player who reads comic books and writes high fantasy short stories after school, is a nerd.

We are all just what we are, and nerd is just a word, not a badge to show off to all the peasants.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Men let their nerd flag fly much more openly than women. Probably because being a nerd isn't considered very "feminine" or whatever bullshit women in social groups determined long ago "normal" women can't act like. So many things women do doesn't really make much sense anymore. Like the whole reason we get them engagement rings (and the fact that it was a marketing ploy by the world's blood diamond supplier doesn't help.) Social expectations can be cruel, even the ones that stopped making sense a long time ago.

Wait, everyone on this plant?

I did not know we were organisms living on a giant daffodil. Considering your... let's call them "achievements" you'd think you'd be able to spot these simple errors, and possibly tone down the arrogance and self-importance.

Being a real nerd or a poser doesn't mean jack shit. The point of being a nerd is being able to emote about things you enjoy in a manner that is slightly more unusual than other people do. If you can enjoy something on a level that speaks to you, and then quantify that enjoyment with other, like-minded people, then you're a nerd. It doesn't matter if you wear shirts based on certain things, because if that's all it takes to make you a faker, you'd better go to your closet and burn up every single piece of clothing with a visible brand name.

When I was in college, I had to do a project with a guy and he pissed me off. He was dumb as a box of rocks, but by god did he love Pokemon. He fucking wore Ash's hat regularly and showed up to college more than once in full cosplay. Like I said, he was a dumbass, but he was a nerd to the core. Intelligence doesn't mean shit about being nerdy.

Being a nerd is about being knowledgeable about a particular topic, not being overall intelligent.

Finding nerd commonality is a great equalizer, though. Finding out someone loves a video game series or whatever as much as I do really helps break the ice.

I think she's just a troll at this point. If that's the case I'm embarrassed.

I'm getting this feeling, too. Either a troll or someone very, very bitter with the world.

The computer field is more than IT.I'm majoring computer science and engineering.

Sorry for the double post here, but if that's the case, you're really going to tidy up your grammar otherwise not one professor or colleague will be able to understand what you're saying in a professional paper, presentation, or lab report. Take it from someone who knows.

I currently have two theories on Nerdgirl11. The first is of course that she is a troll... who actually managed to troll us.

The second is that she has a severe lack of understand when it comes to socialization. She mentioned her ex has aspergers and that she found more nerds in the autism community, which is making me wander if she might have some form of autism herself.

Which is great, because if either case is true getting into a fight with her is rather shameful on our part.

In the first case, we can't really be upset with ourselves because we caught it before it devolved into a huge, HUGE fight.
In the second case, since we weren't aware of that, we can't really blame ourselves either.

I genuinely feel better now; that is something that I've actually thought/wondered about multiple times. And I would, too, for the record.
