Not much love lately for science here, so thought I could start a discussion.

A group at MIT has developed a video chat service with the dead. This website helps you build a digital personality after your death. This in turn means you can speak to a loved one online after death. I guess the website gathers and processes information you've done during your lifetime with complex algorithms. Including information  from your chat logs, social network information, photos, and emails to generate a virtual profile with memories and personality.

Personally, I think it's an interesting and innovative idea, but the practical uses for this are slim. Who would really, honestly use this website to hold onto a bond with a loved one? Maybe I'm being too harsh. What do you guys think about this?

I'd rather be turned into a diamond then think of someone chatting with my digital self after I die. I don't know why but it kind of weirds me out.

I'm a Liger.... Want to see my Liger impersonation?

Science: The power to never ever let go. Apparently.

Using the stuff on my computer to make an AI version of me would not end well for anyone. >.>

Wow its actually happening. Charlie Brooker did an episode from a series called black mirror about this concept. Eventually the woman ends up with a physical copy of her dead boyfriend.

Interesting concept, even if it is a little macabre.

Although I suspect you could never get someone's personality just right, I don't think it would be enough for loved-ones if they were looking for the 'real' experience.

Because I can...

I'm thinking more like Chihiro's Alter Ego from Dangan Ronpa.

I don't really like this idea, it's a bit to creepy for me.

This is pretty cool, but until my mind can be interred in a computer with sensory inputs, it's not far enough!

I basically want to be a dreadnought. :I

Interesting thread but I don't like the idea of my parents and close ones talking to me through some device.

It would be very hard for them to let go and it wouldn't be the real me. They couldn't hug me or see me in person.
