Honestly, I like wearing things that look out of place.
I plan on getting a top hat eventually, Maybe some awesome steampunk type of jacket, if I ever live somewhere cold enough to need it. >.> I've seem some pretty badass looking cuff links too.

For now though, I generally just wear shirts with references that no one gets.

You can totally get away with military style jackets, at least. And maybe even the goggles. I've done both, in fact. =P
Latex dresses would certainly make you stand out, though. XD

Stares never hurt anyone, unlike their evil twin, stairs. Just wear what you want and don't worry about people, it'll make the world a more creative place.
