Well, best is purely objective. I've seen a couple and I wouldn't want to say any of them are "best"

But what animes have you seen? And what kind do you like/prefer? We can definitely give recommendations

Honestly, I am good for any kind of genre as long as the Anime is interesting and doesn't take like 50+episodes to get into or have a bunch of fillers. The last Anime I watched was Attack on Titan, RWBY(not really an Anime but sort of) and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I really don't want to watch the big Anime such as Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece

I also am wanting get back into Anime and I would like some recommendations. In middle school and high school I enjoyed watching full metal alchemist, cowboy bebop and trigun. Recommendations?

Have you seen the new Full Metal Alchemist? Its called Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and follows the Manga and I enjoyed it more than the old one although the old Full Metal Alchemist is good and still holds

I highly recommend "Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood."  It is actually faithful to the manga and got the two leads to give their voices to it from the original series.

Every messed up moment in the original anime wasn't canon to the manga, so no Rose rape baby in Brotherhood.

The new Yu-Gi-Oh! shows are OK if you can handle:

CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!

And...

Card games...

IN SPACE!

Code Geass. It starts as mildly interesting and ends up being a great action Anime with lots of twists, unorthodox characters and exciting events. If you liked Death Note (of course you did), it's similar, just with futuristic twist (mechas) and more actual combat action. Though instead of getting progressively worse, Code Geass gets even more awesome in the second season.

Avoid: Anything that has slice of life/romance/ecchi etc. in genres unless someone recommends it to you, these tend to be very stereotypical snoozefests.

Love Hina the anime sucks, but Love Hina the manga is my favorite one that's over (One Piece is still ongoing, depends on the ending in my stats.)  And Aoi House the manga is short and good.

That ending was epic, but I hated it all the same.

I'd say avoid this unless you love it anyway. I made a friend watch Minami-ke when he only watches action and humor stuff. He hated every second of it. Only certain types can stand it. I'm one of them, mind you. Also, Code Geass 100% Dub is better than sub, and that's not something that happens too often.

I've made about three people watch High School of the Dead, something about it kept their interest peaked

At this point, the Abridged subculture has completely taken over it.  Little Kuriboh and Team Four Star are amazing at what they do.
