So I'm planning on making a computer desk this summer and I have it pretty much figured out.

I want the whole tabletop to be a mouse pad. But here's the problem.

I have no idea what material to use because I definitely can't buy one for the size that I want the desk to be.

Also how would I adhere it to the wooden tabletop?

Any ideas will help :D

Well the base of the mouse pad (the rubbery squishy part of it) is made out of Plastazote, and from some quick research it seems that people who make mousepads just use any basic fabric that you can find at an arts and crafts store.

Link to some Plastazote (Im sure you can find it cheaper, this is just something I found for reference): http://www.amazon.co...m/dp/B002BUH2U8

Your best bet would probably be to fasten the Plastazote to your topper with an inch or two of overhang, then attach whatever material you decide on to the top of the Plastazote. That way you can wrap the pad over the edges of your topper and staple it to the underside and give yourself a nice tight surface that should resist the frayed edges and stretch lines that regular mouse pads experience. Then you just screw your topper to the desk from underneath and away you go.

No problem at all.

Just keep us updated as you get it done so we can see the finished product.

Using it instead of the Plastazote, or using it to cover the Plastazote?

I think instead of the plastazote because for about the same price i can get a ton more neoprene. I think if I do the neoprene I'll find some kind of adhesive (not sure what yet) and put it under it and the make a really thin border around the neoprene with wood and screw it into the table then i wouldn't have frayed edges since the wouldn't be showing. Idk yet. Does that sound any good to you?
