Hi everyone! I'm new here and I though I would start a post that would work as a little icebreaker type thingee.

I have a topic that tends to cause interesting debates. In all honesty it caused a week long 2v2 rift in a house I lived in with 3 of my buddies ages ago.

The debate has to do with butter. Do you leave it in the fridge so that it lasts longer or do you leave it out in a special sealed container so that it has maximum spreadability? What would you think the pros and cons for each option would be?

Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Anyone who doesn't keep it in the fridge is a communist and should be eliminated from the gene pool immediately.

Fridge, having it cold and melting onto things like toast is amazing.

Fridge, if you need to warm it you just nuke it for a few seconds or let it melt over what you need it too.

For us proles though, margarine suffices as butter.

4 to 1 so far. I do have to admit, I keep it in a lock tight Tupperware type container right next ton the toaster, so that makes it 4-2. I just don't have the patience for the butter to soften. When I want my toast I want it now. This has led to me trying to hold the butter over the toaster to try and soften it up. That didn't go well and we have a new toaster now.

We usually have both, use the one that is out for spreadability and the one in for precise measurement in cooking.

I have never had the one that is out actually go bad, however one con is that the cats will knock it onto the floor so they an eat it sometimes.

Keep it in the fridge. Thin slices on hot food and it spreads perfectly fine.

I keep it in the fridge... BUT... if space & feline logistics were not an issue... :<_<:  I would keep it out.

I don't use butter.

Except to bake, which involves using large quantaties at once, so I leave it in the fridge because there is absolutely no point in having it kept out in a sealed container.

However.

My mother uses butter on pretty much everything, so when she visits I leave it out for her.

Because I can...

Am I the only one who doesn't keep it in a fridge?

You do realize that you should? xD Although, one of my fondest childhood memories was getting sammiges from grandma and she never put the butter in the fridge.

EDIT: I choose butter that is soft, even when it's in the fridge :s More plant oils or somethin'
