Me and a group of friends are working on makeing a game its a free roam sci fi game we have a shit ton of lore already but for the life of us we cant find a decent engine that is somewhat noob friendly (Our groups name is Indecent adventures and if you want to join send me a message ill talk it over with the other guys in the group)

The idea we have is free roam like skyrim and kinda the same concept except we want to put in the ability to controll a army like a rts game and be able to switch back to playing as your created char (graphics atm isnt that big of a deal but we will eventually wanna upgrade) if we can we would also like to have this span multiple planets that the player can fly to and have space battles around. To me sounds like a alot might be to much but if you guys can point us in the right direction that would be emenscley usefull thank you for reading.

Sounds like Sukoden(sp?)

If you're looking for a cookie cutter setup, runeforge or RPG maker are probably the easy starts.

are you talking isometric or third person 3D? Because RPG maker or Game Maker will work for isometric games but are not as easy to work with in 3D. I don't know of any programming free 3D game making programs.

are you working with that Tim guy who brought the alien language and the freaky looking alien woman a while ago?

If you don't care to learn comp sci, check out game maker.
Deserves more credit than it gets.
Otherwise, check out python and pygame
