So I've been encountering this annoying problem ever since I updated my Windows 7 to the latest version. Before then I was running on an update from 2011 >.>

Anyway, ever since the update I've been unable to use Youtube (or any flash playback service that isn't games) without the entire computer locking up, and any sound being distorted. I've also had a few occasions where my display drivers have completely died. Luckily they recovered themselves, but still annoying.

I've got a Mobility Radeon HD5470 with 2010 drivers, but whenever I try to update them it says they're fully up-to-date. When I try using AMD's website, they don't even recognize the card as being a thing. The only thing that seems to acknowledge there being updated drivers is DriverUpdate, and it'll only download them if I pay them $30 for the privilege and fuck that.

So, any ideas on how to solve it? I'm wary of even playing anything on Steam in case I majorly shit something up. xD

Just had a BSOD, "Driver IRQL Not Less Or Equal"

According to BlueScreenView it was caused by "athrx.sys" which is a driver of some sort, but the driver itself has been installed since 2009 so I'm skeptical that it's the cause >.>

It's also showing two more files marked in red, "ntoskrnl.exe" and "vwififlt.sys" and I have no idea what either of those are.

Obviously the answer is delete system 32.

In all seriousness though, if worst comes to worst you could back-up your files and reinstall your OS. That should fix any incompatibilities. But of course that is the most extreme option possible, basically nuke it.

I don't think I can even do that. I've noticed lately that computers don't come with OS disks, so I don't think I can reinstall the OS >.> might be wrong though. It seems the only real option in that vein is to system-restore, but even then I don't know if it'll fix the problem.

I'm buying a new computer soonish (a month or so hopefully) but I'd like to keep this one running as much as I can.

I've heard they have helped people restore corrupted OSs before, but it would have to be in warrant I'd imagine.

You could always get Linux for a month.

Yeah you got to use a DVD, CDs are just barely to small >.<

apparently it is really common for people to just copy the iso into the CD, which is completely worthless haha.

I'd send you my copy, but honestly shipping would be about what one blank DVD costs.
