Has anyone thought about the fact that mummy's are only zombie's without the power to transform other beings into fellow un-dead? And that vampires are zombies but not dead? What do you guys think about this? If you consider the main characteristics of zombies (dead and contagious) and compare them with mummy's (dead but not contagious) and vampires (not dead and contagious), they have basically the same "powers". What do you guys think about vampires/zombies/mummy's being alike?

:D

We humans give so much for granted, but not many people realize what a fluke it is if we are here today. Remember how lucky we are, and take a minute to be grateful for what we have. Because before you know it, the best has come to past, and you will be left with nothing, but remorse for what was, and what will never be.

And that vampires are zombies but not dead?

Pretty sure a defining factor for being a zombie is that they were dead, but came back.

It depends what we'll set as the defining factor here, if it's the same as the current pop culture then neither are, currently zombie is believed to be
1. Reanimated dead
2. Craving living flesh for survival
3. Contagiously spreading.
4. Shutdown brain with only select instincts.

In this case, vampires are a straight no, they're not dead, they crave for blood not flesh and they aren't brainless.

Mummy on the other hand, is dead, but its whole existence is usually strictly connected to curses, revenge and they're often not braindead. So I'd say they aren't zombies either.

When we ignore pop culture and focus more on world's history and real-life examples, Zombies are practically witchcraft and/or results of medicine practiced in the past of Africa and Haiti, that supposedly caused the dead to come back to life as simple creatures who did your bidding (eg. field labour) without any particular need to taste your brain. In that aspect I guess we could level Mummies with Zombies, as both are connected to witchcraft, curses and oinments used to preserve the bodies.

Zombies can't help but convert those they bite. Conversion is incidental to a zombie and not rooted in any power at all. Vampires & Mummies can choose what, if any, and to what extent the living will factor into their plans and accomplish that involvement through various actual powers that living humans (or any zombies) don't possess. Zombies have no plans - only a reaction to the living.

I would also toss out a technicality that none of these three creatures are dead. What makes them all undead - as opposed to dead - is the fact that they're still moving around. (Just being OCD is all)

Zombies and vampires both have roots in the stories of ghouls and revenants and draugr, people who die and rise from the grave. Mummies, from a religious point of view, gain new life and aren't undead. It's like their afterlife. And they're all pining for the fjors, death happened and they were like, 'no way, Samiel, not today, cowboy.'

Now, the mummy who terrorized Abbott and Costello was different. That kind will leave you alone if you don't eat their pendants and return their slabs.

Vampires aren't zombies, they can sparkle expensive cider.

Mummies aren't zombies, they aren't a media phenomenon.

Zombies aren't zombies, they were called ghouls in Night of the Living Dead.
