I like to start random conversations with strangers as well.. though i'm not a average height white fat dude.. i'm rahter small, and also a girl
Man, you do that to the right dude and they will just freeze.
Do people really analyse social situations that much? I haven't had a problem with social anxiety since I was about eleven.
Well, this is the DEPRESSION THREAD, so social anxiety is a real problem for some of the people who came to discuss here.

Agh...Don't joke like that. My conversations in real life are like this:
Stranger: Hi there Brianna!
Me: ....Oh uh...H-Hey there uh...Yeah...-an awkward sound between a whisper and a soft voice-
-The person looks at me strangely-
Stranger:Ok then. I gotta go....
Me:....
Yes! I'm a lot like this, especially with new people. I had a friend who I grew close with tell me that she thought I was more standoffish and aloof when we first met because I was very quiet. And meeting people I know in public, especially when you're both going on the same bus is really awkward. Do I sit next to them after they say hi and force myself through awkward conversation until one of us gets off or do I sit somewhere else and risk having them feel insulted.
I'm really open with children though, and ever since I've been working with them regularly, I've slowly become better in social situations.

Oh man, social awkwardness... Yeah, that's a tough one to overcome since you constantly have to go outside your comfort zone and be able to put it behind you if you do accidentally say something silly.
I was forced to get through it for my job. There's a lot of talking on the phone and I'll admit I inwardly panicked every time that damn thing rang and I had to answer it. Then again, not being able to see the person really helped and I've noticed that little practice I get at work has helped me when I'm face to face with someone.

Hmm you and I are like opposites. I hate being around children, they're awkward, you can't engage in decent conversations with them and you can't talk to them about things they're too young for. However I thrive off of being in social situations and love a good house party. (P.S. Don't be too open with children. We don't want to see you on the news.)

It's a big deal for some people, I know someone who's social anxiety was so bad, she couldn't show up for class in high school, she had to do 12th grade three times before she finally got it. It's way more than just being socially awkward, it's really hard to deal with.
I wasn't trying to sound like an arse, I genuinely didn't realise. I always was of the understanding people tended to grow out of it in their teens.

I find them way easier to talk to, easier to entertain too. Maybe that's my problem, whenever I have a conversation with someone I'm scared I might bore them, and it's so hard to do that with a kid, especially once you start chatting about video games.
And don't worry too much

Yeah I understand, looking in from the outside it sounds really silly that small social interactions could cause anxiety or panic attacks in full grown adults. When you're naturally an awkward person, it never really goes away.

It can stem from deep-seated phobias, too. For example, I am REALLY REALLY BAD in crowds. Like, in 2013 I went shopping with my mom for Christmas stuff, and it was so crowded and busy I just started crying. It's really fucking annoying when you consider the fact that I was 24 and literally bawling in the street.

Well, a lot of people do. Another group of people never have the support to do so.

Well, I have to buy two rims instead of one now because my back tire is bent and losing air too fast, I also have no front breaks which need to be replaced asap, and every time it drops below 10° my car stops working. But they started selling my favorite beer a month before they were scheduled to, so I have that going for me, which is nice.

When a kid walks up to me and starts talking in public, I wanna talk back. I have issues with conversations though, because I have a serious fear of the parent just walking up to me and screaming their head off that I'm a paedophile. I love kids but I hate this tiptoe bullshit when it comes to reacting to children, some are just very curious and chatty.
Because I can...

I talk to kids all the time! Prefer them to adults 100%. Don't even care.

lol I'm the same. I'm essentially a manchild. Then awkwardly stand in silence in the presence of adults...... wait.... I AM an adult........ :S

I do, social anxiety has been a serious issue for me for a long time, though I'm getting better about it now.
I'm usually monitoring my own behavior and such trying to keep from acting awkwardly, or fidgeting too much. I'm not so good at picking up other peoples body language or stuff like that though.

I always become hyper aware of every part of my body when I'm alone and in public.

I hear ya on money, if it's not one thing, it's another. And it always feels like it's gonna break you. Just know that it will be ok.

Yeah, I have a feeling something else is wrong too.
My car is revving when parked a bit more than it needs to to warm up, I'm hoping it's nothing too serious tho. -.-
