When anyone digs down inside their own heart, past all the pain and grief, underneath the anger and loathing, there is a Canadian spirit trying to bubble to the surface and say: "Hey friend. Why don't we all just chill out, have some bacon and maple syrup, then maybe play a little road hockey?".

It may be blasphemy but I don't like hockey.

I don't watch it, nor play the ice variant due to my baseball tendencies.

But I do enjoy me some road hockey.

I'll be the kid who keeps an eye out and yells "CAR!" whenever there's approaching traffic.

You have no idea how useful that kid is.

The term hero has been thrown around more than once.

Hahaha, the Canadian Hockey team metaphor rocks :) Without meaning to reference any stereotypes, honestly the BEST maple syrup I've ever had was from Canada.
Who can I be on the team? I'm not really that into sports... The mascot? If there's a wizard mascot sign me up!

We have at least a few teams named "The Wizards", because we are kick-ass awesome.

I am borderline needing to use this thread... and not. In an instance like this, where I feel like I'm plummeting fast and not quite sure how to express it or even understand why, I am going to nap. I know I keep obsessively checking my e-mail, this forum, and my Twitter account. Just... over and over again, hoping for some form of good news about something. Just something positive to give me hope for my life. So... I'm going to take a nap (I have to be up for work at 3:30 A.M. anyway, and hope that when I wake up, things are better. Thanks for listening. Bye for now.

:(

You just gotta keep powering through your book and keep reminding yourself that most people would have given up by now, the fact that you're still working through it shows immense strength of character and you'll feel an enormous sense of elation when it's complete! :)

I get like that sometimes as well.

I jump from here, to imgur, to cracked, to stumbleupon, to newgrounds, and then back here.

Usually it amounts to me spending a few hours completely wasting my time and accomplishing nothing at all.

My remedy and suggestion: Go for a walk in the woods.

Being cooped up inside all day and pissing about on a computer or watching T.V. is among the most efficient ways to fall in to a depressed slump.

Science has my back on this one.

When I go for a good long hike I feel like a million bucks afterward, like I actually did something worthwhile that day.

Plus you get to hang out in the vastness of nature and do whatever the hell you want.

Climb a tree, swear at the tree when you fall out of it, chop the tree down with your machete, start a fire using your victim as fuel, laughing to yourself as you use your fallen enemy's corpse to cook your dinner, then walk back home for a good nights sleep.

Thanks. I did take a small nap and am doing a bit better. I often go for small walks.

And Gol, I already finished my book. I finished it Sunday night. I borrowed some anime' and a game from the library earlier just in case I got some time to get to it, so I'll probably be either watching some Soul Eater, or playing Arkham City.

I'm sort of in a limbo state at the moment. I'll have to see where I stand as far as my bills go over the next two weeks. If things don't improve, I'll be having to move in with my grandma (and you will see a couple week absence of my presence on here while I readjust.) The book causes some depressed/anxious feelings because I've been working on it for so long, and then when I start submitting to agents, that's when the rejections start rolling in. So far, I've only found 2 agents that seem like decent fits for my work, but haven't heard back from either one.

I'll see what kind of mental/emotional state I'm in, and I may take a walk in a little bit. Sounds good. Thanks for listening. :)

Yeah man, I hope it turns right around with your book this time. As the saying goes, how many times did Edison take to finally get the lightbulb working?

Another metaphor that comes to mind is about chopping wood: If you or anyone is familiar with the process they'll know that some bits may take 20 hits, some 10, and others 50. But once you split the wood, it flies apart like as if it was longing always to be split, and was just waiting for that final hit. Keep chugging at it friend :) and know that each rejection letter is one closer to the acceptance!

Thank you. I am in good spirits today. I got some nice feedback on the first 11 chapters of my book, so I at least know that nerds will probably like it. That's what I was going for. :) Still searching for better work though. I finished up at a virtual job fair a couple minutes ago too. I also took a walk as suggested because I was a bit antsy, and though it was nice, I was still too worked up to sleep until 1am... and then had to get up at 3:30am for work, but it was a short day.

At any rate, I do hope more good news is on the way, and I will keep at it with the writing. As much as I'd love to get started on a new book, I'm going to let my creativity rest for a tiny bit and see what news I hear about this one. I really think I did well with it.  I am off to more threads, and hopefully in the future, I can be a helpful ear to someone else here.
