Just curious, how many of you are Bilingual or even Trilingual?

I'm bilingual myself speaking both English and the indigenous language of New Zealand, Maori.

I'm teaching myself Japanese because Maori is very similar in sound and structure.

Anyone else speak any other languages? FLUENTLY I mean?

If so, share me your stories......

LOLOL

English is one of the most complicated languages out there.

I can see why non English speakers would struggle, it's all about slang and uncoordinated placement of words and phrases.

One of the many reasons why it's hard to translate word for word. It doesn't convey well to say Japanese. lol

Fluently English and Japanese, semi-fluent Mandarin and Korean, and I know enough to survive being a tourist of French and Spanish.

I speak English and German passably well. I speak a little French.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Japanese, semi-fluent Mandarin and Korean,

Wow, the three that I want to earn before i die.

How'd you teach yourself? Watching a lot of anime? School? Or did you actually manage 2 live in those countries?

Damn, German sounds really complex. I can't get my tongue around those "Ahhkkkkhh" kinda sounds lol

How'd you learn how to speak it? Just randomly on the internet?

My girlfriend is fluent in Spanish, and knows some Russian, she also got second in state for the German exam a few years back.

As for me, the only other language I speak is Java.

Books for the most part. Korean and Mandarin started by watching dramas and listening to music, then I picked up books for both. Japanese came from anime, books, and my desire to live there.

I learned to speak it from self teaching through books originally. Then took a couple classes to improve.

German is actually very similar to English. Considering English branched off from German around a thousand years back. There are several other large influences to English, but the root itself is German. After learning a small amount you begin to notice many similarities between the languages.

Apparently Esperanto is a good stepping stone for anyone who wants to learn a Eurocentric language, shame it's barely spoken and sounds like shit.

I've dedicated 20 minutes each day to learning new phrases. It's going pretty good. Getting more familiar and confident!!!!!
