Whether it's Yoda's "Do or do not," some poignant words from Gandhi, or something your uncle Billius said before he died, what words of wisdom do you have and have been relevant to your life?
This is mine.

My dad told me before I left home for university "anything worth doing is going to be hard" And more than anything I've realized how true that is, not just academically, with nearly everything in life. I have it written on my clipboard where I keep notes and assignments.

"If all you ever do is dig ditches, make sure you dig them straight and deep."
My Grandfather told me that when i was a child. He was born in 1921 on a southern farm with no electricty. And yes Gol, I mean the racist south this time.

So... Even if you only do one thing, do it well?

You know I love you really.
The best advice I was ever given was something along the lines of, "If it doesn't harm you, don't judge them for it."

If someone from the future isn't here to stop you from doing what you are doing, it can't really be all that bad.
It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Affray, can that be our motto or something? Like, Forum Clan Banner or something?

That is entirely up to the powers that be.
I already apply it to my life, and you are all welcome to partake.

It doesn't help if some of the advice you received was bad.
> God is real
> Gays are bad
> Foreigners are bad
etc
It takes a long period of self-education and anti-indoctrination to break away from those sorts of golden nuggets of information.

As a child of the modern era, one of the more relevant things I ever heard was...
"The first five years after college are going to suck. Be prepared for it, short of getting incredibly lucky, there's nothing you can really do about it. Just ride it out, and realize happier times are coming."
In the middle of my fourth year after graduating now and I'm beginning to see how amazingly, freakishly right that statement is. Not just for me, but for everyone I know around my age that went to college, too.

Maybe that is just about the time it takes the human spirit to break and accept its fate.

"Remember son, a gift is a gift, not a bribe and simply because someone gives you something does not mean that you owe them any favors. Nor should you make demands of gifts you yourself gave."
Probably the only thing my dad ever said that I agree with.

"Follow the spiders."
Or, for real, "Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry." From here:

My nan used to say "If you're not scared, you aren't going fast enough". So my family all drive like madmen.
Also when I was in highschool, one of my teachers told me the best thing I could do was to rebel. So I rebel EVERY DAY, even in the smallest way.
