Well, Whedon thought it was a good idea to kill off the best character, Wash, and yet leave Jayne alive. I don't think fans would have been pissed had Jayne died instead. But the second Wash died, I was like, **** this shit. I loved the show and even most of the movie, but it just pissed me off to no end that Wash got bumped off by a faceless horde of reavers.

I think he was the perfect person to kill. He was well loved and probably the most "innocent" person on the show, Combined with the quick brutalness of it, I don't think he could have gotten a stronger reaction.

Mixed feelings there. It had no time to spoil like most shows. It died in its innocence when it was at its peak. Though part of me still believes it could've been epic and perfect to the bitter end, and so it's a shame.

I also don't fully approve of Joss Whedon's career choice. He used to make these underground TV shows with solid and truly splendid fanbases. Now he went for the mainstream, focusing on the pure hollywood of Superhero movies. Sure, he created one of the best superhero movies of the decade, but it's a total waste of his writing abilities. Sure, the comedy was top notch and the CGI of the Avengers was just over and beyond, but the story felt really poor and limited.

That makes me a bit relieved that Firefly's gone. I wouldn't want it to become more suited for a bigger audience, it was great just the way it was.

By killing him off, Whedon assured no one would really ask for a sequel because it just wouldn't work without the comic relief character. He made that show, along with the girl from Space Cases (blast from the past, huh?) Mal was never my favorite. Badass, sure, and Jayne was designed to be the moronic muscle everybody is supposed to hate (and a lot of people hate the actor portraying him.)

 

We lost the heart and soul of the show in the movie. By killing off Wash and the Shepard, the only thing that could save things was if Zoe was preggers (that was a point of contention in one episode.) And it's not like Mrs. Saddam Mohammad (Christina Hendricks married a minor character actor who played a character named that in American Carol, a parody film criticizing Michael Moore, seriously) will come back. She's far too famous now.

I think that enough time has passed that they could pick up everything a handful of years later, with the crew scattered across the verse doing their own things.

Hired merc, private investigator, commercial mechanic, drunken barfighter/cargo freighter pilot, high ranking companion.

Then a few of them happen upon one another and a high tension reunion occurs.

Then something happens that makes a few of them work together on a job and it is really awkward and Wash weighs on all of their souls when they are together.

I watched the whole day. Woke up at 7 and sat the whole series out. Probably one of my favorite days ever to be honest.

I LOVE firefly.,,, i started watching it before i knew it got cancelled and i was so disappointed i wouldnt talk to anyone for the whole night,, haha. i think the best character is Mal... but if the series had of contiued i think the mystery of the Preacher would have made him the best character.

Firefly is great. I watched all 14 episodes in about 6 days.

The reason I started watching it was for Jewel Staite, after loving her character (and her adorable face) in Stargate Atlantis. (SG1 is my all-time fave sci-fi)

The general plot/story-line is sound, and interesting enough itself, given some good characters (which I think it achieves well). Plus I enjoyed looking at a slightly younger Jewel Staite, than I'd previously seen. 

I liked how Firefly has a multi-cultural future of human populated worlds. The Asian and American, eastern and western populace, isn't tooooo far from what mainstream media portrays (Hollywood and it's universe populated by only North Americans) yet it still deviates from that in a kinda-okay presented way.

Parts of the show are a bit whack (for wish of a better word) though, and hugely affected how much a could have loved the show overall. Like River's telepathic abilities, and Malcolm's resurrection after being tortured to death. 

But those episodes aside, it was still a good enough thing. 7/10
