Cyperpunk/steampunk/prefix-punk is a great genre for mining potential universes. I write stories as a hobby (will eventually launch a graphic novel Kickstarter project in the near future once I find the right artist) and it is very easy to create an analogue planet to Earth's that never advanced past a certain stage or lacked an important element to advance to our stage, so they're stuck in a perpetual roadblock of advancement they have to work around.

Lain was a great show, and by that I mean I liked the setting and music, I had no idea what was going on plot wise. 

 

Does Akira count as cyberpunk because that was pretty good too.

I totally dig cyberpunk. I'm pretty sure I was a little cyberpunk once. At any rate, I'd have to say my favorite is Serial Experiments Lain. It's like a drug.

I'm sure most of you are aware that there will be a video game called Cyberpunk 2077. It will be released in the near future. A lot of people are very excited about it. Including myself.

There have recently been more films in the action genre released in this particular genre, so I guess that it is making a comeback.

I hope the photo I uploaded will be obsolete soon.

Sorry it took me a while to respond to this. I actually almost forgot about this thread. Here are a few of my favorite cyberpunk related films of the recent era:

After Earth, Battle For Terra, Cloud Atlas, Dark Metropolis, Edge of Tommorow, Ender's Game, Iron Sky, Robocop, Total Recall, and Tron Legacy

I've seen AE, Cloud Atlas, Edge of Tomorrow, Ender's Game, Robocop, Total Recall and Tron Legacy.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of punk is modern cyberpunk, though
