Whats wrong with the galaxy?
Also, knowing how they use tablets, iyo, which would they enjoy more?

I have a Nexus 10 and I adore it. I just got the kitkat update last week, it's gorgeous. Honestly, I don't use my laptop very often now that I've gotten a tablet.
I do have a few problems with it. It's rather slow on the charging side, it's almost as if it thinks it's charging from USB when you have it charging through an outlet. If you watch YouTube videos while it's charging, the battery level actually drops. It's best to turn the thing off while it's charging. The battery life itself is actually pretty good once it finally does get there. Probably lasts 5-6 days on standby and 3-4 days on standby with light use/wifi on/etc.
Not sure how well the other models do. I love the 10 but I heard the 7 is the best.

I have gotten to mess around with the 7, but im wondering now if the fire wouldnt be better for the fact that i could stuff it with books for them as well.
Tho i know kindle makes an app i could use on the nexus, im thinking if the fire works as a regular tablet just as well the $60-$80 difference might be the kindles selling point.

The size is really nice, both of the device itself and the capacity (64gb).
There are tons of free apps and quite a lot of kindle hd versions.
The resolution is fantastic and its a very clear and crisp picture on most anything so long as its not being stretched out due to smaller res.
The only two issues i have are with the home screen and downloads.
Id like very much to be able to customize the home page as i see fit with apps id prefer at the forefront, but it instead goes in chronological order from use.
There may be a way to customize this, but i have not found it thus far.
Its really minor..the problem i have with it thats rather irritating is the inability to stop a download thats in progress..by any means.
You can stall it by turning off wifi, but you need wifi to remove it from cloud..you can remove it from cloud SOMETIMES, but as soon as wifi is back on it starts downloading again..even if you go to your amazon account and remove the app entirely. You really are just stuck until this slow ass download is done making you its bitch.
Rather irritating, borderline infuruating when you try going througj great lengths to remove it and still get schtupped.
Now if you have super awesome intrawebs, it shouldnt be a problem.
Just grin, bear it, and delete it when its finished if you so choose.
Apart from those problems its overall a really nice tablet, imo.
The speakers are surprisingly loud, the color ad i said before is great, and there is a huge amount of channel apps you can dl for free to watch full episodes of favorite shows you might have. So far i have the comcast app since i have their cable (btw, their app is miles and away better than their tv navigation and a fuckton better than their website's), discovery channel, history channel, and cartoon network. I have netflix as well but ive not tried it yet tho spleen has offered to let me borrow his account to try, when that happens ill make another post about how well the streaming works on it.

Probably the best deal would have been getting a Kindle Fire HD off Amazon during there Black Friday to Cyber Monday sale. Though I think it might be too late now.

We got the kindle fire hd 8.9 64gb for $270 and are able to do it through 5 installments of $55.
It worked out rather well.
I was able to get him his comforter for his new bed and weve gotten a nice amount of other gifts so they have plenty to open on xmas.

apple is great....if you're willing to sacrifice functionality.
