So, this month, the month of November, is the most stressful month of all for me. Why? Because it's National Novel Writing Month. Where you write a novel. In a month. Ever read the Water for Elephants book? Written in a month. In November. During NaNoWriMo.

And this month, I don't think I'm quite going to make it. First of all, I broke my hand the day NaNo started, so it hurt, so I got a late start, so I had to move my goal  down to a small goal of 30,000 words, and truthfully, I don't think I'm going to make it (and I can also only type 1/2 as fast as usual).

So I want to know is, does anybody else do this? Or am I alone? And if you do, what's your plot? Mine's thing story about a girl who feels (and eventually, absorbs) other people's pain. And it's also set in the future.

Because I want to.

So I hope, if I'm not alone, that you guys all have fun this month, shaping your evil plot bunnies.

Bye!

Tommy

Hey!

I wrote in Nanowrimo in 2009 and 2010, after that life got too busy. I loved it though. It's a great way to just get that story out, you know? I thought about doing it again this year but I feel so out of practice writing (I used to roleplay all the time but I just don't anymore) that I ended up not doing it.

You could always start when your hand heals then use whatever that month happens to be for the writing of a novel.

Why set such rigid guidelines on inspiration?

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Is the 30,000 words an end-month goal? Cuz, even one handed, you should be able to do that regardless of your ability to type well. Just practice and I promise you'll become quicker. You ever edited a document with one hand while holding a Nook in the other? That's how I spent November last year. (Mistakes are a bajillion times more obvious if you format the book with Calibre, load it onto a reader, then do your final revision that way.)

I don't do the 'write a book November,' thing, I write all year long. Why just November? I don't get that. The beard thing maybe? Add whiskey to those two and you got a damn fine hat trick of awesomeness.

Current book is about the heroes after the evil demon overlord is defeated. The common people go on with their happy life while those involved deal with life afterwards. The heroic knight has PTSD after absorbing the memories of the demon king. The witch who was abandoned by her family goes back to her country as the most poweful mage, abandoning the knight when he needed her most, and becomes wizard-king. The elf prince whose fiance was murdered in front of his eyes is denied the revenge he sought, he's kept in a tower, a madman. The kingdoms experince an age of peace, the booster shot given by the war to the primitive school of magical sciences has made life easy.

Six years later, demons loyal to the overlord kidnap the broken knight's younger sister. His older sister, the war hero who just wants to be spoiled, is brought to the frountlines again when the devil army makes its move. The knight sets out with the daughter of the demon overlord to find his sister. Magical princess knight tags along.

Spoiler

Also, maybe an erotic novel for fun. Half monster girls live in hostel. All fall in love with human caretaker. Catgirls ensue.

I thought it was No Shave November. Dang I have it all wrong.

Did they change the goal? When I did it, it was 50 000 words. Some people need that kick in the pants I guess. Sort of a "Everyone else is doing it and there's always been something I wanted to write, might as well do it now."

That sounds like a delightful story. Especially the catgirls, you and catgirls.

@SuKitty: I'm actually out of practice too. My roleplay career has been kaput for, like, a month, and I haven't written much since my PC broke. And yeah, the normal goal is 50,000, but I knew I wouldn't be able to pull it off. I wasn't going to do it this year, but I need to get back in the writing habit.

@Afro: My cast gets taken off December 2nd *facepalm*

@No!: Hurting my spirit, you are, sir. I like to challenge myself to write a cohesive novel in a month. I do write all year long, but November is the time to feel stressed. Strange, but I like to feel stressed. And it's really hard because I have school and Christmas is coming and . . . I just had a heart attack. Your novel sounds coolio-boolio. Mine is actually more confusing than stated above, but I didn't feel like explaining the plot just now. Maybe later . . . P.S. I don't have a beard >:(

@SithLord: I tried that one year. But it bugged me too much.

@Elly-Boo: How about every day from now until next November 1st, I'll send you a reminder? 0.o

Shit, totally forgot. I'm doing Movember, if that counts.

The biggest fictional piece I ever wrote was, I believe, between 7500 and 8500 words. I don't think I could write a good novel in a single month. Damn, there's just not enough hours in the day.

well, I obviously don't have time to do a full novel. Perhaps a short story? Is that legal?
