"Observable consequences of the hypothesis that the observed universe is a numerical simulation performed on a cubic space-time lattice or grid are explored. The simulation scenario is first motivated by extrapolating current trends in computational resource requirements for lattice QCD into the future. Using the historical development of lattice gauge theory technology as a guide, we assume that our universe is an early numerical simulation with unimproved Wilson fermion discretization and investigate potentially-observable consequences. Among the observables that are considered are the muon g-2 and the current differences between determinations of alpha, but the most stringent bound on the inverse lattice spacing of the universe, b^(-1) >~ 10^(11) GeV, is derived from the high-energy cut off of the cosmic ray spectrum. The numerical simulation scenario could reveal itself in the distributions of the highest energy cosmic rays exhibiting a degree of rotational symmetry breaking that reflects the structure of the underlying lattice."

What?  So because our universe has limits and restrictions, it's a simulation?  I thought dimensional limits were discovered via Geometry & Calc?

OK I got about half way through and it became a little preachy so I stopped reading

But while reading the first bit of it, two thoughts came to mind

1. This is an interesting concept, I'd like to read more about this (minus the preachy stuff obviously)
2. Tron

I'm gonna read the actual article that was linked next

Oh you're right, that did get preachy.

New paradigms tend to emerge at the expense of something else. So, we're a digitized reality living with the simulation of multi-dimensions - which is really creepy OR we simply exist (whatever THAT means) on a rock floating through infinite nothingness - which is also really creepy. hrmm...

It's very hard to picture what the Universe is, and so I love reading all these theories because it's exciting. Although, I don't think we even have a slightest idea yet.

I always imagine the universe as if you were to stand in a massive vacuum room and release a handful of sand.

Just this big open nothingness filled with teeny tiny bits of stuff.

As for how "real" any of it/this is, I have no idea.

Which is possibly how I was designed to think, or not, and I think it anyway.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

I like to imagine we live in the same world as star ocean: the last hope. Who gets that?

Forget that, now we know why the toilets keep disappearing!

That has gotta be one of the best analogies of the Universe I have ever seen.

It really is the best analogy. You should put that on a shirt.
