I don't know if it's the fact that I've recently stopped my anti-depressants (1.5 months ago) or it's the unemployment, but I've been seriously depressed lately.

Remember when Krusty's prescription ran out and he asked kids to send him lithium from their parents' supply?

That's pretty much what I've been like for a while now.

I burst into tears watching a cat food commercial.

Man that's rough, have you considered getting in to see a psychologist or a depression help group? The latter can help if you can't afford the psychologist I assume.

I've never suffered from depression myself, but my dad had depression when I was growing up as a kid and I know its not a fun thing to suffer from at all. Hope you start doing better, man.

EDIT:

I agree with Gol, you should look into one of these.

That's a fantastic idea. I have NO money/insurance, but I bet I can swing something.

I haven't been in counseling since Spring of 2010. That is a long-ass time. Christ, I need help.

I randomly cry over nothing. I don't take antidepressants as they make me worse, to the extent I've only ever attempted suicide while taking meds to deal with depression.

Well then I think it would be a smart idea to get back into counseling.

Thanks a lot, guys. I'll start working on that on Monday. Make some phone calls, whatever.

I will. At least I haven't attempted suicide since 8th grade. (Holy shit, middle school is hell.)

All you can do, anyone can do, is keep on keeping on.

I know, it seems like a shallow sentiment, but at the end of the day sometimes all you can do when life pushes you is push back until it gives up.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Yes, very much so.

Exercise helps. Simply going for a walk--the action of the heel striking the ground releases endorphins in the system activating your metabolism and gets things moving.
Of course, if you live in a bad neighborhood, this may not be a good idea.
But the general thing is to get up and get moving.

Are you getting outside and jogging/hiking?  In the military the solution to stress is PT & Water.  You'll be surprised how NOT depressed you are when you're tired as hell. And sometimes Tylenol for aches and pain. (PT = Physical Training)

I too have noticed that the people who tend to be depressed are also the types who don't fill their days with things to do.

The more idle time your brain has, the more you are going to contemplate your existence and arrive on some not so bright conclusions.

It's not always though

Had a part time job, would cry in the toilet on my breaks, wouldn't get out of bed on the days I had off.

Depression does suck, it sucks so much.

Because I can...

Working doesn't count as doing stuff in my books.

I accomplished a great deal if thinking and inner reflection while mindlessly doing kitchen work.

I've heard working out is one of the most helpful ways of helping depression. I did go to the gym for a month or two this year, and I felt less shitty then. Should go back >.>

So...what does doing stuff mean to you? In my opinion, work is an activity, and an activity is doing 'stuff'.

Nevertheless, I agree that doing work is rarely stimulating unless you do something you enjoy. I find it so hard to cope with the monotony of my job now that sometimes I hide in the toilets for a few minutes and just sit there in the cubicle trying to build up the courage to go back out there.
