Ah ok, I was guessing the answer would be something like that but I wasn't sure if there was something deeper that went on with it.

True true, but I imagine some people say that.

Ya but they'd sound like tools if they did.

You should just take a mish-mash from all the best bits of every religion you know and practice however you like rather than call yourself a Christian. An all-seeing all-knowing god isn't gonna care how you worship it, just that you do I expect. May as well have fun with it at the same time.

I shall worship the lord (or lady) by having a big orgy in its name.

To quote Amy from The Big Bang Theory, "I'm open to the idea of a deity but I'm baffled by the notion of one that takes attendance."

Plus, "oh my science!" doesn't sound right.

I'm going to start using this.

What made you decide to become a Christian any who? I know a lot of people who left but I don't know anyone who joined of their own accord. =o

Like I said, its what I've grown up with. Also to me, it just seems to have a lot of truth to it, because I don't believe that we just got here by one big bang. So to know that there is a God in Heaven thats created the universe and all of us thats in it is comforting. Also, like I said, it makes sense to me.

I'll just divide this up into little bits and un-thread each one.

'it just seems to have a lot of truth to it, because I don't believe that we just got here by one big bang.'

That's a very simplified way of looking at it. In fact, that's not the right way of looking at it, it's so simple it's wrong. I won't bother explaining singularities and advanced physics to you when I don't understand it all myself but you can't say, 'I don't believe in this because it sounds stupid' when you yourself are making it sound stupid by refusing to research it further.

'So to know that there is a God in Heaven thats created the universe and all of us thats in it is comforting'

The old, 'I'll believe in something because it means I don't have to be scared about death' approach eh? Don't just blindly follow something because it provides comfort. Christ, the Germans followed Hitler into war because he comforted them into blindly accepting his word as gospel.

'Also, like I said, it makes sense to me.'

I'd love to hear you make an invisible sky man sound more real than the physics behind the Big Bang, I never managed that, even when I was Christian.

Your description just makes it sound like an easy way for a man to get the wife he wants, instead of whomever he would otherwise have an arranged marriage to.

I forcefully penetrated you, therefore, you must be subservient to me for the remainder of your life or be cast into hell.

"A woman dropped a stone and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armour bearer, 'Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say a woman killed me.' So his servant ran him through and he died." Oh religion, what are we going to do with you, you little rascal.

The bible has painted women to be the biggest antagonists of all time. It's easier to be made subservient if you're told by your father, brother, mother, leader and religious icons that you are evil and must listen to them to change your ways.

"Eve, you have now created the first act of evil and for that, all of your gender must pay"

'it just seems to have a lot of truth to it, because I don't believe that we just got here by one big bang.'

That's a very simplified way of looking at it. In fact, that's not the right way of looking at it, it's so simple it's wrong.

Actually.... It is kind of that simple
With all the theories behind how the big bang was initiated, and the inablilty for us to know what happened before it, it's easier for us to assume it just happened.

As to what I believe.
It's not simple.
I was born into a christian household and was a good little christian girl untill I got old enough and smart enough to realise the hypocrisy (around 10)
I started hating religion (this includes atheism, and face it athiests, as much as you don't want to, you are a religious faction now), but I studied it, because I was fascinated.
I like to call myself undefined.
I like to believe there are several deities out there, within a heirachy, battling out for the top position.
I believe in the "supernatural" and that oneday we'll understand it better than ever before
It's kind of like an amalgamation of reality, science, fantasy and science fiction all rolled into one with the understanding of energy and energy transfer being the centre focus.

This is my spirituality, I don't put faith in Science. Sience isn't faith, it is fact, I just incorperate it into my belief system.

We could bring back "Oh, my stars and garters". Timeless and distinguished.

...and eat a diet of strictly hard boiled eggs and I don't think I would judge you any differently....

Strictly hard-boiled eggs can get a bit rubbery, can't they? And what if I want to eat soldiers and eggs? I can't dip them in the egg if it's all hard-boiled. Although, with the diet restrictions, toast would probably be out...

What the fuck religion says no to toast?

Ugh, atheism isn't a religion. It is the complete opposite. If you say atheism is a religion then you don't know what atheism actually is. It's an ideology and a belief but its premise ignores the presence of a god. The goal of atheism isn't to just bash religious people over the head with science books. It's completely detached, the disbelief in god is a relatively trivial aspect because...well there's nothing to be riled up about. Just like with any belief though, there are followers who are more militant and gobby.

And yes, the Big Bang happened, but to say, 'there was an explosion and then life happened', you're missing out billions of years of progress and...really, the Big Bang was a complex series of events as well. It wasn't just a big BOOM.

The way it's organised and seen, it's evolved from an ideology into a religion.
Putting faith into science so to speak.

You're right about saying "there was an explosion and then life happened" is wrong
But The Big Bang is what it states it is... A Big Bang.
Something quantum and fantastical occured then expansion happened rapidly.
The big bang itself is just a boom
What led up to and occurred after, are a complex series of events.

The Big Bang was caused by something though. The way I see it, the Big Bang is the most likely candidate for the creation of the Universe because there is the most evidence for it. If scientists discovered something more likely to have brought us about and provided sufficient evidence then I would look into believing that.

That reminds me of a scene from Extras where Ricky Gervais is talking religion with his friend and she asks him why he doesn't believe in God, what proof he has that God doesn't exist. And he essentially says, I am not the one who has to prove anything am I?

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

I think she means that she isn't going to be wavered from her view on religion, so she doesnt want other opinions.

(I'm assuming the person is a she because I dont know.)
