Saw it last friday, this movie is what we call the Shiznit.

All you who watched giant robot tv shows, stuff on Action Blast on G4, Saturday Morning Transformers, Toonami marathons etc. This is the movie we've been waiting for. The movie behaves as if they took a mecha flick and shot it live.

Yes its predictable and generic in terms of story elements. You don't emulate kids shows then go Shyamalan. We get Ron Perlman as a badass gangster and a plurality of Jaeger and Kaiju(they call the goddamn monsters Kaiju!). It's got reasonably funny slapstick moments, cool sayings and for fucks sake the giant robots do everything you'd do if you had one.

Do it, go see it, its worth it.

I liked it, but it's true that the story-line has been used before

Technically every story line had been used before, or at least it's archetype already exists.

Affrayed.

Though this movie is in a genre that blatantly accepts that the story doesn't need to be fresh to be good.

Because of giant fighting robots.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Spoiler

There are story structures that will always be used, but they don't always follow in that specific story line

Pacific RIm was amazing in every aspect. I love "humanity vs huge threat" types of movies, and this one was no exception. The graphics were amazing, the story was adrenaline pumping,  the soundtrack was epic, the romance was adorable and I loved every single character.

I didn't understand why the Jaeger in one scene grabbed a boat to fight the Kaiju, when they had a hidden sword the whole time.

I thought it was pretty good, and visually it was incredable.

I'm fearful, I'm fearful, I'm fearful of flying, and flying is fearful of me.

I watched it on Thanksgiving. It was exactly as advertised, beautiful, tons of action, and no story to be seen, and I loved it. Fuck yeah robots fighting aliens!

I didn't understand why the Jaeger in one scene grabbed a boat to fight the Kaiju, when they had a hidden sword the whole time.

I thought the same thing, the swords seemed much more effective.

But I mean, they had a giant fucking gun that they would only use at point blank range anyways, and then wasted bullets that came back to bite them in the ass later.
