I'd probably want to be one from Harry Potter. Most likely a Ravenclaw. That's the house I always wanted to be in.

Wizards are interesting, but I've found classes like the Sorcerer to be more fun to play (in most settings.) Wizards do have their own aesthetic appeal, though. Transmuter wizards and illusion wizards would personally be my favourite. (I'm basing my opinion more off of DnD 3.5 than any other fantasy universe.)

Divine magic users are probably my favourite over arcane magic users.

Ooh, point of interest, Withered: what is the difference between a wizard and a sorcerer?

I always felt that Sorcerers have magical energy that they can summon and cast, while a Wizard needs ingredients to do some magic. In Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, you need to buy a spell component pouch or a spell kit with general items for spellcasting. I think Wizards need wants in DnD, too.

I can definitely be mistaken, though.

It all depends on your personal information pool, anyway. If that's the case, what the fuck is the point of being a wizard if being a sorcerer is available?

I believe (not counting multiple or prestige classes) that wizards have access to more powerful spells earlier, and the bonus feats are different and are subjectively better. The sorcerer class gets more spells per day, but the wizard can essentially prepare a million spells as long as they do prepare it beforehand.

From a real life perspective (as much as that's possible when discussing magic), I'd say that a wizard doesn't need to be born with a natural aptitude for magic; it can be learnt. Whereas a sorcerer is born and shaped by the realms of magic.

Cool.  In that light, sorcerer for me. All the way. Innate abilities for the win.
