Well, Affray runs his own business and I've co-run and sold one, next week I'm about to start my second. It's hardly normal to do that, let alone to find success and profit from it. And trust me it's a risky thing to do in this economic climate. As KJ said, if you've got your answers then you don't need input from anyone here in the first place.

Also, even if you pour all of youe money and time in to a project and it fails, you can at least say you tried.

Yeah I was involved with my friends business a few years ago. Due to his inexperience and lack of creative insight his business failed miserably. lol. I learnt a lot from what he did, he basically ran the train too fast and derailed the whole project. I know starting a business is risky but you know what? Where I live, I AM the best at what I do!!!! (Media and entertainment) I'm really young compared to my competition and I have a good idea on what the younger generation want. (Well here in NZ anyways lol)

 

I'm an optimist and I have full confidence in my ability to succeed!!! I can't explain it properly.... but for some reason.... I know this is what I must do....

I'm just more cautious, I'd want a backup plan in case something went wrong. But it's more than just a hobby for you, you know where you're at. Good luck!

I normally try not to weigh in on things like this but for whatever reason I feel like I should comment.

 

First and foremost, I don't understand why you see this as a black and white issue. You're either working a job where you're miserable or, the complete other extreme, running your own business. If you have a degree why couldn't you get a job at a consulting agency or a business with an in-house media team? I guarantee is tons of work out there where you'll get to do the same type of thing you want to do.

 

My next point is you don't seem to care what anyone else thinks, much rather have your heart set on starting your own business and running wild with it. If that's your desire be prepared to sink a lot of money and time into a possibly fruitless venture. What kind of stuff would you be able to show a potential client whose business you want? Perhaps I'm the only person bold enough to say your video editing is not impressive enough on its own merits. If you showed me the stuff on your youtube channel as an example of your work and you were going to be leading creative on it I would be done with you right there. The other big red flag is

There's nothing wrong with pride in your work, but you should ALWAYS be your harshest critic. With that kind of attitude you will never get better at what you do and frankly I think you'd leave a sour taste with a lot of prospective clients.

 

None of what I have said is meant to offend you or be personal attacks, your success/failure has no bearing on me. You should just really think long and hard about this. Maybe a bit of failure would do you good, though.

I've made a number of student short movies. Working on the storyboard for an animated feature film as soon as I finish my novel. I've already started drawing it, have a partially written script as reference. Plan to save up some money for an illustrator, and put together an animatic. Then get a job and hire some animators, and produce the thing myself.

 

I have a Certificate in Television, Theatre and Radio from Aoraki Polytechnic in Dunedin (2000)

And a degree in screenwriting (2011)

Just finishing a Diploma in Art and Creativity with honors (2013) with a focus on digital illustration and designing images for animation.

Within the past 2 years my central focus has been music, producing, recording, performing and making the videos.

I was 2/3 through my Honors at EIT last year but dropped out to pursue creative projects. I was going to fail that class because I wasn't learning anything new. :S

 

Now I'm entering local film competitions, just took out "Best Original Song" in the Rialto 48 Hours Challenge in my region and earned a place in the finals.

 

I reckon the best thing to do is just make your shit, no matter how crazy your film may sound, just bring it to life. Fuck what people may think or say.

But as of late, me and some friends are preparing to make a documentary about our soon to be central north island music tour exploring the indie nerdy music scene. Performing in Auckland, Hamilton, Papamoa, Gisborne and ending in Wellington. It's guna b hella fun

Then I want to save up $1,000 and hire an illustrator to draw the shots and put together an animatic. Then try and find a producer for the next stage of fundraising.

That animation must have been hard to make. Lip synchronisation can be a real irritating puzzle. The gorillas are drawn pretty well.

Rob, that was so awesomely bad, awesome, weird; I love it! You should make a show like Parapa the Rapper where your characters fight the antagonist(s) with dance and rap each week, Power Ranger, monster of the week style. Make it terribly tongue in cheek and use redundant dialogue. Make a kickstarter, I hear thats what the cool kids do. Make the devil overly tough, yet in the closet stereotypical homosexual type of way. Tough the kid should be like the Tasmanian devil and speak in short, almost incoherent bursts. Cut the butt dog, I don't get it.

 

BTW, what are the deleted videoes?
