I just figured since it's close to the starting area it'd be alright to do a little spelunking. How wrong I was >.>

Gotta love throwbacks to when gaming was a challenge and not a hand holding walk through a story.
The world doesn't level according to your experience, the world forces you to grow as a charcter to adapt to it's plethera of terrible shit that it constantly throws your way.
Got I love that game.

I have an issue with aiming, too. I can't seem to get it right. Even with the crosshairs on an enemy, I still seem to miss a lot. >.>

That is because Oblivion and Skyrim have made it so that even at level one if you shoot an arrow/swing a sword at an anemy skillfully, it will hit them, but with a very small amount of damage. Morrowind, on the other hand, gives zero shits about your aim and bases your hit ratio on your skill level in that specific skill. Low skill level equals low chance to hit your enemy. Which is why you should spend your early levels jumping everywhere and murdering rats with painful dedication to get those skills up.

Yeah, I spent quite a while fighting some kind of worm-like beastie because I kept missing. It was weak as fuck but I couldn't hit the damn thing.

Probably Kwama foragers.
Little jumpy grub bastards.
Just wait until you get in to some mines and run in to Kwama warriors and queens and such.

First rule of Morrowind, you're safe no where, not even in your sleep.

I think my plan of action is going to be jump around a lot to build up agility, to the point I can jump onto buildings. Steal everything that isn't nailed down in a weapon shop, run outside, jump onto a building. Kill any guards that come with the stack of arrows I loot (hopefully) then pinch their armour.

Not a bad plan.
If you went heavy armour go do the Morag Tong questline and you get ebony armour rather quickly, and it makes you filthy rich.
Then I acquire the mark and recalll spells and use the Morag Tong base under Vivec as my home base to store all my loot. It is perfect because if you become over encumbered and can't walk, you can just cast recall and teleport to where you store all your loot.
Then after you get some levels under your belt and further the main plot enough to the point where you get to Tel Fyr and Divayth Fyr is no longer required for the main plot to continue, you murder him and take his Daedric armour and laugh at all your enenmies from then on. Then go find one of the Daedric Faces of God for a bit more armour and a nice enchantment. If light armour is your game, go to Vivec and hit up the Redoran Vaults (I think) and steal a few pieces of glass armour, and a pile of gems and other swag. There are also a few caves that have glass armour in them, and some vendors that sell it, and NPCs that you can kill and loot it from. Go get Umbra (the sword) as well. It is the best sword in all the land. Highest attack rating, plus a soultrap enchantment. Plus if you went medium armour as your specialty I think Umbra (the ord) has orcish armour on him, which is fairly decent medium armour. Also get the Daedric crescent. It is also a very powerful bladed weapon that has a disintegrate armour 5-30 points, and paralyze for 10 seconds enchantment. You can only get it by going to Magas Volar and using the Daedric Sanctuary Amulet to go to this other realm where you have to murder a guy and get it. After that, just murder and loot your way to becoming a god among insects.
Yes I played this game a lot, and yes I am a vast wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Yeah, you probably want to work on your marksman skill a bit before you try this, though. I thought I could do this at, like, level two or so, and literally ran out of several full stacks of arrows trying to take out the guards below me, hahaha. Still quite a few left after that, so I was kind of screwed...

I started playing this today. Custom class spellthief wood elf, because fuck stereotypes. Wandered outside the starting town, headed for Balmora or whatever, took a wrong turn. Found a cave (U-something I think) and this random falmer-looking thing fucked me over in two hits.
>wat
haha I know which cave that might be, I have stumbled upon it when you are heading to Balmora from the south, and got my ass kicked there many times. Not a cave you want to enter right away

Levitate is a worthwile spell, can break some dungens and save your life in battle. Craft a spell for each school that cost 1 mana and run around casting it to level, fortify mana for res, weak to fire to self for destruction, and so on.When you start making custome spells it's not a bad idea to add 'heal self for 1 for 1 second' or something of the like to heal you just a bit in battle. Alchemy is an amazing skill to take, you can have a potion for anything. You can make anyone attack you by taunting them. Even at 0 disposition there is a slim chance they will take the bait, then you murer them with no retribution, even guards. Mark and recall are great, but also get divine intervention and the other one that I can't name.
And the crsesent blade just looks cool as tits.
