is there any way to import a .uvs file into maya or what way is there to import uv's?

Programmer(in training), hacker(in minimal training), good with computers and mature, all you need to know about me but feel free to talk to me, contact me or whatever, i am no danger.

I don't think they're meant to be opened and looked at.

umm, no its a different meaning to it, im talk about .uvs not .uv and i mean the uv's you use for modeling.

According to that, Blender can open .uvs files. I don't see anything about Maya opening them, though, sorry.

UV files would be for modders over modelers, It would be to make multiple skins, If a Modeler wanted to make more skins he would use the same base model but change the clothing model and everything else which would need new UVs anyways. I don't really see the point in opening UV files if you are modeling but I may have missed a valid reason. If I need the same model with a different skin I usually output one model with one skin and then another with the new skin.

Even after all this any model you create would be unique in dimensions so if you grabbed a UVS file to overlay onto your model you will have to resize, reseam and cut it to fit.
