Am I stupid? You shouldn't build Shiv and Phantom right? You should just go Phantom if you have enough gold and shiv if you are impoverished, right? My friend is telling me other wise and i'm like, okay I won't judge.

I think it really depends on what you're doing
I main ADC and I never bother with a shiv, there's not that much difference in the price when you get down to it.
But I suppose it depends on what you want you character to be doing in end-game, I've seen both Nasus and Gangplank being built with both a shiv and phantom and got raped hard.

you queuing for support or tank?
top lane fighter. Crit-Crank isn't as tanky.

well a shiv would definitely work better on Ashe (or Vayne) than other ADCs since they are so auto attack reliant. There are still better items they could probably build.

With Ashe's passive, I find that it works really well to get a phantom as it has more critical strike in it, but when it gets to endgame I tend to stack two phantoms on her, the unstackable passive being the you can move through units means it doesn't matter, to me at least.
But I can see why it's beneficial to buy a shiv and a phantom on her, but this is ONLY after you've gotten to the point where you've HAD to sell you doran's for a better item, which is the only time I tend to think about whether I'm going to stack another phantom or go with something else.
But really you should've won, (or lost) by that point of the game, so it tends to be a moot argument in most cases.

I've never really played this category of game. Is LoL a good game to start with?

I would say so. As was mentioned on the first page of this thread, it has tutorials and kind of level-based game set ups (so if you select your level as 'beginner' you'll be matched up with other beginners) but there's also a high skill cap so the better players can still enjoy the game.
I just started yesterday and I'm hooked! I used to play DOTA, and did like it, but back in the day it was a game you had to learn fast. I did manage to tag along to a few LAN parties, but I've stopped playing since then and lost all my skills. I did download DOTA 2 but compared to the layout of LOL it didn't suit me. The little things I guess that make a subjective opinion. I'm also finding though that I'm picking up LOL a lot faster than I would've in DOTA. Mostly due to the grouping system that they have. It's awesome. A bunch of us newbs are put together and I can say stuff like "For the empire!!!!" and others will be like "YEAAAAHHHH!!!!"
yall should add me!! I'm gr3yh4m3 in LOL, too

Patching League because why the fuck not, my co-worker plays and I want to teach him the true power of Lux Master Race. Bear in mind I have not played since... 7, 8 months ago? I know Facebook told me a while back that they released Azir, I want him. He sounds fun.
Reading up on some of the patch notes, and I'm just depressed. I'll see how she plays before I pass meaningful judgement, but from the looks of it they've completely smashed Soraka. No more giving mana to your hungry, hungry adc, no more Starcall wounding entire waves as well as working as a poke on any champs who might be around, and healing allies by paying out your own mana on top of your own health? The fuck is this.
I'm glad they don't appear to have hit any of my staple champs too hard with the nerf bat, though. I mean, aside from Soraka. I'm pissed about that. But from what I remember they really hit supports hard anyway. Last thing I remember is AP mids acting as support because the damage was worth more than the heals from actual supports.

I feel Soraka is actually better now. She's more built on harassing and being there in the fight instead of just standing back and popping healing/mana spells to her ADC.
Her old abilities you could harass but Starcall has a longer range making it less of a risk to use and easier to harass, but with the heals and silence/now also stun, the range is shorter so you have to be near your ADC if you want to use them and honestly it's more effective.
I find her new kit makes her really fun and way more rewarding.

That's my problem with her, really. I liked her being a background champ. She was the only character in the entire game who was 95% focused on being a healer. Now she appears to have much less utility, trading her support versatility for some kind of pseudo-AP brawl mage, and I hate it xD

Hmm...We should make a LoL team that plays regularly...Or has that been talked about? I don't wanna look at all 49 pages.

I just feel like I lack the proper PC to play this game. The characters are awesome, with freakin' launch music videos given them and everything. But, until I get a better computer, I'm stuck playing Shovel Knight and 3DS titles. Which is fine by me, but maybe that's why MMO games never really appealed to me. Never had fast enough Internet and a good enough computer at the same time to make the games flow well enough.

It really doesn't take much to play it.

Yes I played League for a while, and Dota, then I stopped and haven't played either in months.
Was going to get back into Dota to join some friends but I just think about it rather than actually do it.

Sounds inviting.
