You know, I've read a little bit of both and they're sort of on the same level to me. I've grown a better appreciation for larger fantasy novels since I read them so I may try them again later.

I *hated* the Shannara books. I read three of them because my friend kept insisting that they were brilliant.
I figured I must have been missing something, or maybe they got better later on.
But no, they were awful. AWFUL.
This could have been Vasectomy vs. Shannara and I still wouldn't vote for Shannara.

I don't think he needs to be immortal. I think all he needs to do is to write the right story. Because some stories do live forever.
