For me it would be a tie between X-Com: Enemy Unknown and Bioshock.

The Portal series is probably my favorite. I'm excited for the new one. I've watched the clip on Steam about it. Looks pretty cool.

Loved the Metro series. I'm into post-apo reading/gaming in general. I hate the fallout series though. Starcraft II campaigns are definetly incredible, the Halo serie is pretty good though I'm not fond of console gaming. You should try Half Life 2 and Crysis if you never did, those are great classics. Mass Effect series is on my 'to-play' list.

Doom!
Duke Nukem!
I don't play that many games, but I do enjoy some.

Definitely Portal.
Though I really like the Fallout series as well.

If we're going on a loose interpretation of "sci-fi" here, I'd say Pokemon Sapphire (the balls) or Painkiller (those weapons.)

That being said, when I want to be a loner and just make my own story entirely I go for fallout. I know it's a kind of past/future mash up but the whole feel of apocalyptic freedom and ability to throw yourself in again and again with a fresh new look on your character just gets me every time.
If I'm up for a Star Trek style quest or feel - Mass effect
If I just want my own futuristic tale and some carnage , fallout.

Mass Effect. All of them.
Got to agree. Not just for the gameplay which was fun but showed improvement across the series, but the depth of the material. A lot of writing went into that first game that informs so much of the later games.
Area 51 was also the dog's doodahs. All hail the bygone PS2 era.

Lol, sorry for quoting an old message but this cracked me up.
E.T. ftw.
Seriously though, I personally love Doom, Commander Keen, Ratchet & Clank, Mass Effect and Saints Row IV.
If Borderlands 2 counts as sci-fi (it's not the most classic type of sci-fi, but still) then that's one of the best ones as well imo.
