I do that with video game release dates.

My mom was watching a home video of me yesterday and the date on the film was 1994.
I turned to my buddy as we walked through the room and said "Hey, that was a long time ago. Like twelve years."
Then my brain had a fit as it struggled to realize that 1994 was nineteen years ago.
Apparently I have no idea where I am in space and time.
It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

son, i don't even know what day it is.
don't do drugs, kiddos.
Todays is...
shit, I can't name any weekdays...
gimme a few examples, and I'll probably be able to wing it
I always enjoy the moment when I turn on the first new video game of the year and something like ‘Copyright 2013’ pops up. Then later, whenever I turn on a game that says ‘Copyright 2009,’ I get sad.
Whenever I boot up OoT to see "Copyright Nintendo 1998", an air of despair surrounds me.
The nineties has been ten years ago for me for a long while now...

I constantly think it's close to the year 2000
then I take a step back and realize we're closer to 2020 now than we are 2000

CRTs were the only affordable TV monitors in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when this method was popularized
I just read that on Wikipedia
I didn't think that needed clarification yet
