Am I the only one that's bothered by this? I mean really, it takes a whole extra 1.5 seconds to write 'you' instead of 'u' so is there really a need to abbreviate it? I think it's uber stupid.

Drives me crazy too.
One of my best friends does it in texts, but I think it's because texting is still magical space technology for her.
I don't think he needs to be immortal. I think all he needs to do is to write the right story. Because some stories do live forever.

Text talk, bah. My girlfriend does it and I keep saying if she keeps it up I'll ignore her texts.

I never do though. BAH.

Was majorly guilty of this nearly five years ago. It hurts to think about it. <_<

lol how v c=3tater of u, Spleen. So long as u can understand, i dont think its a problem. XD

And then I realised I study English and I actually think that it has its place, as all abbreviations do, considering they've been around since the medieval times. In modern text based discourse it is completely out of place however, unless you really do require a modicum of brevity or it's a very brief SMS based discourse I suppose.

Ah good... I'm not the only one... It is probably the least necessary abbreviation, next to 'R' for 'Are' and 'B' for 'Be'...

People seem to think the dawn of texting brought about these abbreviations. They've merely brought them into public usage. Be'twixt, t'was and isn't are elisions we now see as fundamental and standard to English. Don't all jump on the hate train without doing a wee bit of prior research first. ;)

Don't forget about Double Contractions

Exactly, and a huge number of those originate from pre-Victorian periods. Abbr'vs. be 'yo freinds.

I make my own contractions. <__<

Like G'morning, G'night, and fail't.

A friend of mine called them Contract'Sean's.
[And now those of you who are clever know my first name.]

I use a lot of abreviations on texting. I have a few friends who also do the same. We use "u" and "n" and all those internet stuff too. Like lol.

How intrigueing.
While in college my roomates and I would get outselves in to some pretty long debates on various topics of the usual sort.
Religion, politics, zombie survival, etc.
I happen to have a vast, vast bank of various facts and (not so) general knowledge of everything I have ever come into contact with.
So during these debates/comparison of notes with my roomates they always ended up learning at least a few new things about some random topic or subject that they did not previously know. After this became a habit they were impressed enough with these factoids that they were always learning from me they coined the term "Shawnversation".
This of course being a conversation where you come out more knowledgeable in the end whether you like it or not.

So not only do we share a name.
We share a clever name related coinage.
Quite righteous.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.
