It turned out that there are serious problems with the HDD.
So I tried to fix it by using one of the HDD "cleaning" programs from "Ultimate Boot Disk".
Started well, but turned out questionable...

I've actually never used this program before, so I'm not totally sure what's meant by all those "drive not ready" errors.
Is it possible that all the NRDY sectors are bad sectors?
If that's the fact, I assume the old HDD is dead
Or can anyone of you give me some hope or ideas, how to reanimate it?

As I received back my old Laptop with the words "It's kind of... dead... sorry!", I started trying to heal it again.

On the bright side, new ones aren't too expensive.

Good chance the drive is bricked. :/

It's true. I got a 2TB one for $120 and it's probably the best purchase I've done on my computer.

If it was with your sister then probably anything and everything happened to it... I honestly don't really know what to say, the simplest thing to do would be to buy a new hard drive. They're not that expensive.
That's what I thought in the first place... stilled tried to catch a last sign of hope... ^^
I'm not terribly familiar with that tool, so maybe someone else that is can help. I assume it's not booting at all?
No it's not .. tried the common procedures like booting in safe mode, Booting from dvd, booting from external drive and so on...didn't work
Disk formatting seemed a reasonable solution, as it went on displaying problems with the HDD...
btw.. it also sounds a little creepy...

Strange... >.> I don't know why a HD would be making weird noises... For that matter I haven't even heard my HD make any noises at all.

I'm not sure if it actually is the HDD.. I didn't really give it enough attention yet, because I just assumed it's always been that loud.
But I recognized: when turning the notebook on it's side.. like a 90° turn, the strange sounds stop...

Well my guess is that something might be caught in the fan, and when you put it on a 90 degree angle the cord or whatever it is stops rubbing against the fan blades.

Okay,..so I should screw it and have a closer look to the fan, when it's off power again...
But it's still giving me nothing but NRDY results for now at least 714 sectors...
Should I give it up now, turn of the life-sustaining measures and let it go?

I'm a little confused... what's so funny about screwing? ...My dictionary sais, it means something like... twist in/ or out a bolt...
