Also, if your hard drive is making weird noises, it could quite possibly be a head crash, and that's also what's destroyed so many sectors. A drop or hard jolt while it's spinning is what could have caused it.
The fact that a new laptop hard drive can be had for under $50 USD means that's what I'd try to replace first.

Since it's a laptop, you should be looking for a 2.5" drive. 69.75mm or so if it's in metric.I found one on ebay, including the possibility to send it back for free if it doesn't fit :-)
Hope it's the only damaged device...
