9 was my favorite game, I really enjoyed the setting and characters, and Zidane was just the right amount of crazy for a main character. I think Blitzball from X was probably my favorite minigame.
I recently purchased FFIII for android, and have been playing it on and off on my tablet, I have to say, it's a ton of fun too. The 3D engine is great for a mobile game, and the playstyle works well on a touch screen.

Favourite game is VIII. Though I'd have preferred Squall to end up with Selphie >.> Squall is actually a really deep character, I'd say moreso than any other FF character. He doesn't voice it much, but if you really take note of his inner monologues, it's awesome. I also own an actual Gunblade and am usually wearing the Lionheart pendant >.>
Favourite minigames I have three of. Or technically two. Triple Triad from VIII and IX, and Blitzball from X. Can't wait for FFXHD so I can spend my life on Blitzball again. My old save file on X was something like 300 hours, and the majority of that came from playing Blitzball. I think I had basically every player at max level, and most of them had all tackles/shots learned.

VIII was interesting, but I didn't really get into the story line or anything.
The Triple Triad games were a ton of fun. I remember the 8 and 9 versions being different, but I can't remember how. I'm actually replaying FFIX now on and off, and it's quite a bit of fun to get to do the card game again.

Speaking of which. Someone made a flash game that emulates VIII's Triple Triad almost perfectly. LINKY I've played the crap out of it.

There's a letter to start with, I think that's the style of attack, then two numbers represent the power IIRC.
That's pretty awesome, I'll have to give it a play. There needs to be a multiplayer version. >.>

Now where is that furry little bastard so we can make him make a game for us.

HOP TO IT WOLFY!
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Mhmmm, still am. Doing alot of the mechanics design. I'm trying to find inherent advantages of computer-based gameplay, such as the math not being done by the players [which affords me great complexity]. I'm also trying to decide the basic gameplay of the game, I'm looking at existing card-games for inspiration, but in hindsight they play very similar, at least compared to what I'm trying to accomplish. I feel if I create the game around the two points I just made I can make alot more than just a card game.
Once I get the basic mechanics for the game: How the turns proceed, how it plays, etc. then I'm going to design a few archetypes for the cards, changing between them the main method for winning the game. Think of it like the colors for MTG and how they all play different, but if each color represented a unique form of victory.
As far as the game engine, I'm still pretty decided on Unity, iffy about Unity 3D, as it adds a barrier of system requirements. Going vanilla Unity is also easier for browser-based gameplay from what I'm reading.
EDIT: Let me know if you guys have any ideas. Any at all. I don't wanna miss any little things.

basically, make a clone of the Triple Triad game that we can play against each other, with better graphics. >.>
You do know the guy who designed Triple Triad also designed FFT and FFV?
Those are some pretty big shoes to fill >w>

Seriously though, it would be badass to get to play that online.

Pft, you can do it!

People have made it in flash, IIRC.
But, yeah, I think I can do that.
In fact, I might make TT first, which will give me an idea as to what I can/can't do in unity, and give me general practice in making a Unity card game.
